I think there was a time this book was probably great but now it just reads as dated. I am in no way a sports know it all (would I be reading this book if I was?) but even I know the name Tom Brady and he isn't mentioned in this book under the section for the "greats". Granted, this book stops right at the 2002/2003 mark so it's not like the author left him out on purpose but this book needs some updating.

I think the basics in this book are still good. It did help me gain a better understanding of the game and I'm hoping that as I give the game a real shot this season, I can understand now what I'm watching on tv. For that reason it's not a total dud for me.
