A short but readable book based on a unique idea.

There were lots of books about humans with paranormal powers back in the 60s and 70s but this is the only one I recall reading that deals with the prospect of multiple people pooling their paranormal powers to build a "paranormal machine". In this case, they're hoping to construct a huge, invisible, machine of paranormal energy that's capable of finding and contacting alien worlds. Gordon Rupert Dickson was an American science fiction author. He was born in Canada, then moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota as a teenager. He is probably most famous for his Childe Cycle and the Dragon Knight series. He won three Hugo awards and one Nebula award.
