Towards an Islamic Theory of International Relations: New Directions for Islamic Methodology and Thought

This book attempts to lay the intellectual foundations for a reconsideration of what constitutes a truly Islamic world order. Much of the value of this work lies in its discussion of methodology, and in the ways it proposes that further study may be undertaken in the social sciences in general, by means of methodology developed from a purely Islamic perspective.

abuHamid Sulayman wrote a work on International relations of the muslim World as conceived by the classical Jurists (dar al Harb, dar al Aman, dar al Kufr, dar al Sulh, dar al-Amarah), their methodology that constricted them to these interpretations. the works also calls for further research into these classifications so that the Islamic Polity can extricate themselves from conveniently defined past constructs

What ever psychological or military pressures were at play when the jurists invoked these classifications is what is important to note and understand

If you dont want to read the entire work, just read the piece where he expands on the classical jurists and their hyphenated ideations of dar-*

This work was his Ph.D dissertation at U of Penn.
