Out of the Fire: Contemporary Glass Artists and Their Work

Rate this book
A lovely book, well-printed with fine photos and color printing. Covers 30 artists, a few of whom understand the elegance of simplicity and grace, while many choose to convey a "message" or be exotic (and ugly). Good book on a neglected craft. Annotation copyright Book News, Inc. Portland, Or.

Wonderful, carefully lit and sensitive photography, especially for the smaller pieces.

This is a splendid feast for the eyes and just by looking carefully at the photographs you will get a good idea of the varieties of colors, techniques and ways of approaching this very ancient and yet very contemporary art of blown glass, kiln cast glass, laminated glass, crushed glass, sandblasted glass, cast glass in all its varieties, photosensitive glass, acid cut glass and lampworked glass.

Enjoy!

Another nice survey book of glass artists, this time only the contemporary glass artists were highlighted. I would appreciate seeing much more of the works by many of these glass artists. It was interesting to read the (very) small glimpses of each artists artistic history.
