Kinga Choszcz za swoją pięcioletnią podróż autostopem dookoła świata otrzymała w roku 2004 "Kolosa" - najbardziej prestiżową nagrodę podróżniczą w Polsce. W tamtej podróży musiała pominąć Afrykę i od dnia powrotu myślała nad realizacją tego planu. Druga i niestety już ostatnia książka Kingi Choszcz powstała na podstawie jej relacji z samotnej podróży do Afryki. W czasie tej podróży autorka zmarła na malarię. Na nasze szczęście jej bardzo obszerny internetowy pamiętnik, który powstawał na bieżąco w czasie podróży zawiera opisy niemal wszystkich odwiedzonych miejsc oraz napotkanych ludzi a także przebogatą dokumentację fotograficzną - Kinga już dawno udowodniła, że jest niezaprzeczalnym talentem w fotografii podróżniczej. Tekst zebrany przez matkę Kingi oraz nieznacznie przeredagowany przez Wojciecha Cejrowskiego jest bardzo interesujący głównie poprzez unikalne widzenie świata przez Kingę, którym zaskoczyła wszystkich w pierwszej swej książce "Prowadził nas los". Te dwie książki to niezapomniana lektura dla wszystkich ciekawych świata Czytelników..!!!

About the author

Kinga Choszcz, better known as Kinga Freespirit, was a well-known Polish traveler and travel writer.

Kinga's first solitary journey led her to India and Nepal overland. Soon after she met her life partner Radoslaw Chopin Siuda, and together they hitch-hiked around the world for 5 years. Kinga then published her book Led by Destiny and followed her heart's call to go to Africa. Eight months later she died after contracting cerebral malaria in Ghana.

Miejscami książka mnie zachwyciła i zainspirowała. W innych momentach dłużyła mi się. Wiele tu opisów samej podróży, łapania stopa i szukania noclegu czy jedzenia, po jakimś czasie zlewają się w jedno. Brakowało mi bardziej plastycznych opisów wszystkiego tego, co pomiędzy.

I liked this book, but I expected it to be more profound. It can be described as a detailed report of a hitchhiker's journey with beautiful photos - but nothing more. No deeper feelings described, no thoughts, no changes that happen inside Kinga's mind and soul. And this I would find the most interesting part, rather than knowing all the names and rooms of every friendly person she met. I also found the vegetarian food mentionings quite annoying, I understand Kinga's proud of being vegetarian, but really, no need to mention it every time she looks for lunch.
All in all, a nice and relaxing read.

Language-wise this book stands out from other travel diaries. It reads very well and contains some interesting insights into the way local people live. What I missed, however, were descriptions of Kinga's inner life. Surely, when you spend so many months in difficult conditions far away from people you love, something must be changing inside - this book doesn't show it.
