I wasn't sure how I felt about this series when I read the first episode--A Load of Old Bones--a scary wobble on the perilous edge of "cute." But now, in it's fourth installment, it has settled into a nice black humor. Here's the set-up: The vicar Francis Oughterard wanted nothing more than to be left alone with his domestic routine, and no vicar had a more deaf ear to the notion of parish life, when he was compelled to murder one of his lady parishoners who fancied herself as the future Mrs. Ou ...more

I would normally shun any book in which I am privy to the musings of any animal other than those of the human variety. Not so with Hill's fabulous series! I can't wait for the next book! Start the series with A Load of Old Bones. You'll love the twist in the middle and you will be hooked, guaranteed.

I enjoyed the first book in this series very much, while originally the old fashioned writing style and the narration captivated me, unfortunately it now seems repetitive and have tired of the cat and dog narrative, think she is a brilliant story teller hope to read more from this author; without the cat and dog.

I'm not a fan of mysteries told from animal points of view. This one had the same story being told from the dog, the cat, and the vicar's point of view. It was odd and I just wasn't in the mood from something quite this silly.

Moving the setting of this book to France gave a different perspective. Apart from that followed the usual formula. Enjoyable, light reading.

Pretty messy - tempted a few times to give it up. The ending was messy too.

I was born in Eastbourne, Sussex, in 1941; and much as I love that county, my life has led me to several other locations - the Midlands, Nottingham, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, Berkshire - and finally in retirement to Ledbury in Hereforshire. Here I lead a convivial and fairly self-indulgent time socialising and writing novels. I emphasise that last phrase because although bein
