I really liked this one... looked forward to it being among my morning reads. Fairly easy to understand and may go through it again at some future year.
While there might be a few selections here that could be improved on, that's inevitable in a collection with this many entries. Smith's selections come from all the various strains of Zen, and from quite a range of sources - while some of the original authors will be familiar to anybody who reads in this area, others are considerably less well known - but all, for the most part, interesting.
I didn't think some of the "readings", which were in actuality, short quotes, were very good. I think I would like a book with a little more than a sentence to meditate on or think about more appealing.
