T. Rex dresses up as the Easter Bunny, and it’s hilarious! Kirkus calls this picture book "a happy, hoppy holiday celebration.” Peter Cottontail is out sick, and there's only one dinosaur who's up to the task of delivering his eggs on T. Rex! All T. Rex has to do is work on hopping—without the wiggle. He keeps breaking all the eggs! Join T. Rex and his friends as the big goof saves the day in a very special way. Will practice make perfect? This fun Easter-theme story will bring giggles at circle time and in the home and will be especially fun for the dinosaur fan in your life.
T. Rex Cottontail! FANTASTIC! I am a sucker for 'dino-hybrid' books! I wanted to be a paleontologist when I was a little boy; so somewhere (deep down inside) I guess I still have a strong connection with dinosaurs. Now I guess they just take me back to a simpler place and time that I still like to go to when I am feeling overwhelmed.
In a pinch, T Rex steps up and helps deliver Easter eggs to kids because Peter Cottontail is stuck home with a cold. This is a cute story with bright fun illustrations. The thing I don’t like about it is at the end all the eggs that the kids get hatch and they’re all left with baby birds. I realize this may not occur to many people as even being a real life issue but it is. For many holidays, especially Easter people are given baby animals and often lose interest if not immediately, shortly after they that the animal’s novelty wears off. These animals are often brought to shelters or rescues if those places aren’t full or if they are the animals are abandoned outside in environments they aren’t able to survive in. Please be aware of what owning an animal entails. Pets are not presents they’re commitments. 3 stars.
The Easter Bunny has called in sick on the one day of the year he has to work and T. Rex is stepping up to take his place. Though I have my suspicions that T. Rex may have had something to do w/the Bunny's disappearance.
Contrary to what scholars have led us to believe, Stegosarus, Diplodocus and Iguanadon all appear to get along really well with T. Rex, in fact when Rex clumsily botches the job, the guys all help out in getting Easter events underway.
Definitely a different take on the late Jurassic period.
Fun Easter story about a lovable T-Rex and his eagerness to help his sick friend--The Easter Bunny. Illustrations are bright and wild as the story. I read it to our Grandchildren while their Dads and Uncles hid the eggs for our family Easter Egg Hunt, and we all enjoyed it and laughed a lot.
Was looking for a fun read as a lead in to talking about spring and stumbled into this one. T Rex ofers to help out dressed as the Easter Bunny (since Peter Cottontail caught a cold). Problem is, he isn't good at hopping, yet--and ends up breaking all the eggs. His friends. Diplodocus and Stegosaurus go in search of replacement eggs while T Rex works on his hopping. Staying up too late so they can dye the donated eggs, the crew of jurassic buddies oversleep but manage to save the day, delivering all but one egg, which they save for Peter. Then craaaaaack! All the eggs hatch. My K-2 kids all chuckle at these chaotic and noisy scenes. Waited for an observant student to ask why the oroginal Easter eggs T Rex breaks were raw--no one did. One did poi t out that T Rex is wearing bunny slippers and Peter is wearing Dino slippers. That got a lot of laughs.
Used this as my fiction lead-in to the Gail Gibbons book about robins building a nest.
Your dinosaur lovers will enjoy this tale! A comical story about how T. Rex steps in to help the Easter Bunny.

Dinosaurs, Easter, and adventure come together in this light-hearted, humorous picture book for kids. This is an excellent seasonal read-aloud and would also be good for first and second grade readers for independent reading.
Chose it for the title... and that's the best part of it. I guess if you like silly that doesn't quite qualify as nonsense, and can stand overly busy illustrations, you might like it better than I did. Not bad, not good, imo.
Read this with my 5 yo niece. It was cute to see T-Rex and his friends step up for Peter Cottontail while he was sick and couldn’t give out eggs for Easter.
We’re all familiar with the nursery rhyme song of “Here comes Peter Cottontail.” Well in this story the cute fuzzy little rabbit is laid up with a cold and isn’t able to bring “baskets full of Easter joy.” So he enlists the aid of his friend, T-Rex who of course is a big dinosaur and not at all cute and fuzzy. But T-Rex does his best to play the part by gluing on whiskers, adding bunny ears, a big cottontail and fluffy bunny slippers. Being a big, gawky dinosaur doesn’t make it easy to hop sweetly so he manages to crack and break all his eggs. Now his friends will have to come to his aid as he did for the bunny. Quickly they scurry about finding replacement eggs wherever they can be found. Now they have to color them as well. They didn’t know you could find colored Easter eggs at the supermarket. But then what fun is it if you don’t get to color the eggs yourself and get dye all over the place. With everyone working together, the eggs get the appropriate coloring and are delivered to all the little children with a surprising end which I won’t reveal. I read a lot of children’s books and I understand that topics have to be dealt with simply, but this tale seemed to need at least another twist or two to give it more of an impact. If it wasn’t for the imaginative illustrations by Jack E. Davis, the book would fall flat. This is a book you may want to add more to the story as you are reading aloud and pointing out the actions in the pictures to get it to flow better. For the illustrations I would give it a five, but for the story only a three.
I just posted a piece on my blog about children's Easter picture books. Each week I do interviews with published authors who share their experiences of getting published and give tips from what they’ve learned. When the Easter Bunny comes down with a cold, it’s up to T. Rex to make sure Easter comes to the boys and girls. He makes a grand effort, but when he oversleeps Easter morning, it looks like Easter will be a dismal failure this year. But an unorthodox solution brings smiles to both children and the Easter Bunny himself. Not the best of this genre, but creative, and humorous, and something different to add to the collection.
I was a little nervous where this might go--with the dinosaur possibly eating the bunny, or being the bunny to eat kids. But he was just filling in for the bunny, and I was OK with that. Not earth-shattering or overly-fabulous. Just a silly story of the silly idea if a dinosaur were filling in for an easter bunny, and a couple of mishaps along the way. Humor in some of the illustration details best seen in a lap-read.
Who wouldn't love a T. Rex wearing bunny slippers? I found Here Comes T. Rex Cottontail amusing with his taped on whiskers and great big goofy, trying-so-hard-to-help heart.
Funny story where T. Rex is going to help out Peter Cottontail and be the Easter Bunny. Only he smashes all the eggs and sleeps through the morning delivery. It's an unconventional Easter tale as the kids seem him delivering them and they don't get candy. All the eggs hatch into animals, but it's silly and everyone, even Peter Cottontail has a happy Easter. Colorful illustrations add to the humor. Kids are sure to giggle at these hijinks!
