I found this little gem on the clearance rack at our local Books-a-Million Outlet store with a $2 price sticker, and was thrilled! Yes, just thrilled! I love all things Pompeii, so had to snatch this book up.

A great little book for those interested in the ancient city of Pompeii. My absolute favorite part of this book was the many pages of transparent overlays, with a photo showing Pompeii as the current day excavation, and the transparent overlay showing what the same exact place might have looked like at the time of the eruption. I LOVE this kind of stuff, and flipped those pages back-and-forth multiple times just imagining their life and world.

This book also contains some information on the archaeological excavation at Herculaneum, and a couple pages on the Villa Jovis on Capri, but the main focus of the book is Pompeii. This little book has not been added to my shelves, and will now remain a part of my collection of Pompeii books.

Drawings of ruins in Pompeii with clear overlays showing the artist's conception of what they would have looked like before the eruption of Vesuvius.

Very detailed, with colour photos of the original sites plus computer produced overlay plastic pages to complete a view of what places would have looked like

I devoured this book when we visited Pompeii several years ago. With it's transparent overlays that allow you to see what the buildings looked like before the eruption, it really brings to life the ruins you see there.
