Although this was a memoir of an Englishman and his family living in Normandy, I have read much better ones. The author clearly has a keen interest in history and for me, there was too much reference to the history between France and England and not enough stories about how he and his family settled in the north of France. There were whole chapters that referred only to the historical facts of the area.
