This book was a great introduction to Herding Dogs! I thoroughly enjoyed it! I do wish it touched more on HOW to train a herding dog and how to get into the sport and such but I still really enjoyed this book! I especially love that she talked about the importance of muzzle training! I've read many dog training books and this is the first one to actually touch on it! Excellent read!

I'm a bit disappointed in this one. I waited a long time before I was able to afford to purchase it, then I waited even longer to have the time to read it. It's a quick and easy read, half of which is spent detailing the herding breeds (and in some cases types, as I hardly believe an ACD-Border Collie or ACD-Aussie cross to be a legitimate "breed" called a "Texas Heeler" buy us Texans. If that's the case, then I have one. What it really is is a cross, a mixed breed.)

This book is just a brief overview of herding, rather than the step-by-step "how to" I'd hoped it to be. Still, the photos are beautiful and the wisdom it does offer is sound.

I read this book because I'm buying a herding dog with the intent of doing herding trials with it. That being the premise, it was helpful, it was well rounded, and there were lots of fun pictures. However, I couldn't imagine it as pleasure reading without such a motivation.
