Drawing on a rich, interdisciplinary collection of U.S. and Mexican sources, this volume explores the conflict that redrew the boundaries of the North American continent in the nineteenth century. Among the many period texts included here are letters from U.S. and Mexican soldiers, governmental proclamations, songs, caricatures, poetry, and newspaper articles. An Introduction, a chronology, maps, and suggestions for further reading are also included.

About the author

I read mysteries, literary fiction, non-fiction, comics, and histories/commentaries about comics and illustration. Although I love words, I've developed a passion for book design and really enjoy illustrated books. My forthcoming book (Fall 2019) from University of New Mexico Press is about Mexican Westerns in film, comics, and music. (Illustrated too!) I've previously published and edited books on Latin American literature and culture. I grew up in Spain, Costa Rica, and the Dominican Republic, where I devoured signet classic editions of Sherlock Holmes, Robert B. Parker Spenser novels, Spanish paperback editions of Agatha Christie's mysteries, Alexander Dumas, Herge's The Adventures of Tin Tin, and Mortadelo y Filemón.

An excellent collection of documents that goes beyond what the title promises. Conway provides a good balance between American and Mexican sources and organizes them into a coherent series of topical chapters. The editor's introductory notes to the pieces are helpful.
