Offers a comprehensive guide to the world's oceans, focusing on various forms of sea life around the world and the threats they face from pollution and global warming, as well as a behind-the-scenes glimpse of practical film-making under demanding and difficult conditions.
I am truly fascinated, mesmerized, and calmed by the ocean and the numerous life that resides there. It's why I love to visit the ocean, I volunteer with oceanic conservation groups, and I read as much as I can about this environment. It's a magical world that unfortunately we humans are doing everything in our power to destroy. I hope this book doesn't end up being the only way future generations have to understand the ocean and the life that fills it.
This tome is the companion piece to the movie and its pages take the reader on a journey around the world, introducing them to creatures large and small. Filled with beautiful and dynamic photographs, the readers learns all about everything from jelly fish to polar bears to sea otters to corals. The writing is poetic and matches the power of the hundreds of colorful photographs. I just wanted to stare at pictures of dolphins and whales for hours. The camera crews were able to capture images that are super close to the animals due to the advances in equipment and technology.
This leads to the least interesting part of the book for me, at least. The final few sections are about the making of the movie and the creation of all the new technology needed to pull off a four year endeavor such as this. The book also goes into details about sections that were left out of the movie. I skimmed these sections as I wasn't as interested in them. Overall, though, I highly enjoyed this book
Stunning photography accompanies the story behind the new DisneyNature movie, Oceans. Don't miss the diver filming a great white shark without a cage between them!
Beautiful and very touching. This book takes you through the photography of the movie, which also was gorgeous. It is a wonderful book to invest in and great for the family.
