When an art book bears the subtitle "Techniques, Projects, Inspiration" I really expect techniques, projects, and inspiration, not a collection of lame little bios of a few artists whose work is largely mediocre. There were a few useful tips -- not particularly obscure ones -- but overall this book felt like a vanity publication for some friends with congruent tastes in hobbywork. There are many types of altered objects besides the ones featured here, and the pieces included were far too similar to one another. In fact, if someone showed me a sampling of the works and told me they were all by the same person, I would have no trouble believing them. That is the opposite of inspiring.
Oh my goodness, this book spoke to me. I had no idea there were words to describe the type of art I love to do. Taking junk and re-creating it into works of art makes my heart sing. I'm blessed that this book exists, seriously. <3
This was a pretty well written, well constructed book. I really enjoyed the fact that they showed specific works, and went into how and why the artist constructed it the way the did. It was a great chance to see a variety of artist-work and altered objects in one volume, while still getting to read a little about technique or materials used. I would say this was a good book for 'inspiration' if you're interested in getting into this kind of artform.
I've been coming back to this book constantly since I bought it last year. Think "mixed media." It makes me crazy! FULL of excellent projects, how-tos, different artists approaches. Not your traditional craft project, oh, no!
More an "art" book than a "craft" book, this profiles several artists who use found objects in their art. I found it interesting, although I could appreciate some of the art pieces more than others.
I would've liked to see more imagery and less discussion, but otherwise I enjoyed this. There were a few ideas in it that I liked. Worth checking out if you like doing crafts.
