Just in time for Halloween comes a collection of the spookiest Archie tales ever! Included is the epic 'House of Riverdale' saga by Batton Lash of the Archie: Freshman Year series. Archie and the gang try to save the historic Riverdale House from being torn down and end up in a face-off against the house's evil entity! Plus, special guest appearances by Sabrina the Teenage Witch and many other creepy-kooky tales guaranteed to scare you silly!
I haven't read any Archie comics in years, so thought Id give this one a shot. They seem to still be aimed at younger readers, but are still enjoyable for grown ups too. I read some pretty dark and graphic stuff, so sometimes I like to read something light-hearted for a change.
The art remains the same as I remember it, as the artists use an Archie "house style" to keep the art familiar. In this case, that's not a bad thing.
Even though this is a "horror" themed book, it's still more humor than anything else. Sabrina the Teenaged Witch also puts in an appearance. Overall, it's an Archie comic. There's not much else to say really. If you like Archie comics, you'll enjoy this one.
The first story is about Archie and his friends getting Halloween costumes from a place with a real witch. The costumes will turn the kids into whatever the costume shows and she plans to cause a lot of trouble that way, but she doesn't exactly get what she wants. For example, Jughead is supposed to be a vampire, but instead of biting people he steals their food. One kid wrapped as a mummy is supposed to spread terror but instead he heads straight for a comics shop.
The second story is about a derelict house that Archie gets his friends to help him save from being torn down. That would seem to be a good thing but the house is inhabited by a vengeful spirit There's also a policeman who hates teenagers and tries to give Archie lots of trouble.
There are a couple more stories including one really funny one where Archie and Jughead go to a party for monsters. It turns out they are real monsters. The whole issue is really very funny and entertaining.
