I used this book because I took my family backpacking for the first time. It had been years since I had done it (pre-kids) and it was the first time I was really leading a hike. This was a go-to guide for packing, rules of the trail, using good judgment in the backcountry, and ways to make the trip enjoyable for everyone. Highly recommended.
A bit of an abrupt ending, and the excellent division into chapters by different authors necessarily hampers the flow of the book, but this book contains a lot of helpful ideas about camping, and some impetus to try a different mode of backcountry transportation.
