The first and only book on the life and art of the Grandfather of science-fiction illustration. The book is edited with an Introduction by Stephen D. Korshak and a Preface by Sir Arthur C. Clarke. This edition has softcovers and is a 9x12 coffee-table size book.
If you’ve read any early science fiction in the pulp magazines (mostly) of Gernsback, you’ll have seen Paul’s work. A nice survey here. This was rather an eye opener:
“It's interesting to note here that for almost every Gernsback cover painting that Paul rendered with paints, he also had to create a smaller version, rendered in black and white, with pen and ink. These were used for house ads to sell individual copies of Gernsback magazines and to entice readers to subscribe to the different publications.”
