A Little Book of Devils & Demons

Rate this book
Presented in this small book are the flying demons of Great Malvern, the Hellmouth on a misericord in Shropshire; Buddhist demons in Nepal and India; not to mention diabolic cats carved in medieval churches in Devon and Derbyshire; and Lucifer, prince of darkness, his skin turning into scrolls of leaves. Impish, leering, scary, and outlandish, this is a fascinating and astonishing collection of stunningly photographed devilry and doom.

Nice little quick read. Had some interesting bits of information per piece of artwork of the demons in some of the churches around Europe. I believe one of them was discovered after the church tried to get rid of the depictions of the demons and washed the paint over the mural. It's interesting to see the art that displays the viewpoint of the Christian mythology of demons by the church.

A decently compiled book about the many artistic depictions of Satan and his minions. I came across this book during my earlier, darker years of reading ... when I was deeply interested in that part of the occult. It ended with me buying and reading La Vey's Satanic Bible, which I still kind of wish I hadn't read, especially considering I haven't read all of the Holy Bible yet. But this was nothing as serious as that. I remember being disappointed at the time, because it's not much about the demons themselves, but their paintings, where to find them, who painted them, and the author's analysis of each one.

All in all, there were some very impressive - and sometimes creepy - works of art in this book. I can't find it anywhere now, so I guess I must have given it away. Oh well.
