I read a review copy of this through work. It's the first book for the 8-12/middle grade I've read in a while, but I really enjoyed it. I was a little worried when I saw that it was fantasy--I've found that books involving mages and elves etc. don't go down too well with readers that age, for some reason (unless it's Harry Potter obviously)--but the fantasy is more action and adventure orientated. One of the highlights of this book is Jamie's guide, Jasper, the sarcastic and contrary cat. While I do feel the ending was a little weak, it didn't take away from my enjoyment of the book as a whole.
I can't for the life of me remember where I got the idea to read this book from. It was not Goodreads...it does not have a blurb. It is a decidedly odd little story, very strange. I liked it and it was a very fast read.
