As soon as I could read, I began devouring books. I'd read anything I could get my hands on, but Louisa May Alcott's "Little Women" and Nancy Drew mysteries were early favorites.
In school, term papers were my favorite homework. While others bemoaned the amount of work involved, I jumped in, burying myself in research and writing the document with care.
Still fiction was my first love. After college and a degree in English, I fell into the world of advertising. After many years in corporate America, I went my own way. Working and raising two kids took all my energy and creativity. But when the youngest went off to school, all the stories ideas in my head came to life. Mac Caldwell and Callie Richards landed in my head and refused to leave. So I told their story. What started as one book has become six. Now I greet my characters every morning at six and jump back into their story, enjoying every minute. I'm blessed to be able to work at something I love. More than 70 books later, I'm still up at the crack of dawn, crafting the tales of the people who live in my head while nursing a cup of tea and a few pieces of black licorice.

"Carla sapeva che doveva prendere una decisione. Se voleva Al, doveva chiarire le sue intenzioni e pagarne poi le conseguenze. Dovrei buttarmi? O andare avanti così? La vita da single sembrava facile, ma in realtà non lo era. Non riceveva alcun tipo di supporto dalla sua famiglia. Suo padre pensava che fosse disdicevole che una donna gestisse un bar ed era sicuro che lei fosse una maîtresse oppure una prostituta e usasse il Beast come copertura. Sua madre era più comprensiva, ma non poteva fare nulla per aiutarla, e i suoi otto fratelli e sorelle avevano tutti le loro vite, i loro figli e i loro problemi. E così, ogni mese doveva lottare per sopravvivere. Quando riusciva a mettere da parte un po’ di soldi in più, non osava spenderli per se stessa. Una mattina al mese si concedeva un film, quando il biglietto era a metà prezzo. Il duro lavoro, però, non le dispiaceva affatto. Nei capitoli precedenti della serie, Trunk non è apparso un personaggio particolarmente interessante: pur se sposato, amava i locali di spogliarello e l’alcool, e il suo matrimonio appariva subito tutt’altro che felice. Ma le apparenze ingannano. In realtà, come ormai ci ha abituato l’autrice, anche Trunk, come i suoi compagni di squadra, sotto la divisa dei Connecticut Kings ha un cuore che desidera trovare l’amore. E in questo caso anche più degli altri. Ciò che scopriamo della sua vita, infatti, è molto triste, è un uomo con un desiderio profondo di crearsi una famiglia, di avere qualcuno che lo ami e lo aspetti a casa, ed era convinto di averlo trovato con Mary. Ma le cose non erano andate come sperato, sua moglie non era mai riuscita a essere troppo affettuosa o appassionata e questo aveva portato il giocatore verso la bottiglia e le spogliarelliste, troppo spesso, anche se non aveva mai realmente tradito. Scoprire che Mary ha sempre mentito e che gli ha nascosto un grosso segreto lo devasta. Il suo desiderio di ricominciare gli fa prendere la decisione di vendere la casa, dove ha abitato con la moglie, e in questo modo si trova ad affittare la stanza sopra il bar che gli offre Carla, la proprietaria, che molte sere lo ha visto bere da solo e che è diventata sua amica e confidente.
Carla Ricci ha avuto molti uomini nella sua vita, che si sono allontanati da lei non appena scoperto la sua regola inderogabile. Anche Griffin, il Quarterback dei Kings, che prima di sposarsi ha avuto una storia con lei, non è riuscito ad accettare questo suo incomprensibile atteggiamento, ma è rimasto comunque sue amico. È una donna forte e risoluta e per Trunk prova da qualche tempo dei sentimenti che non ha mai fatto trapelare, perché l’uomo era sposato. Tuttavia, anche ora che percepisce quanto sia attratto da lei, esita a farsi avanti, timorosa che, come tutti gli altri uomini della sua vita, anche lui non accetterà la decisione che ha preso anni prima e che non intende cambiare. Se ha sempre saputo superare le delusioni dell’essere lasciata, sa che con il giocatore potrebbe essere diverso e che potrebbe davvero spezzarle il cuore. Eppure, l’attrazione fra loro è troppo intensa perché riescano a resistere. Il loro è un rapporto di amicizia e passione, peccato però che entrambi tacciano cose importanti che non vogliono rivelare per paura, qualcosa che impedisce loro di dichiararsi l’amore che provano, e che potrebbe invece renderli estremamente felici.
Amo moltissimo questi personaggi, che mi sono diventanti col tempo estremamente famigliari, soffro con loro durante le loro estenuanti partite, e qui assistiamo anche a un tormentato Super Bowl, che ci farà davvero stare in ansia. Mentre ci immergiamo in queste pagine osserviamo questi ragazzoni palestrati mentre si caricano negli spogliatoi prendendosi in giro, tentando di intrufolarsi nella vita degli altri in cerca di particolari piccanti, respirando un’atmosfera che parla di amicizia e obiettivi in comune. È bello vederli proseguire nella loro vita, ed è commovente nel finale vedere come Trunk si renda conto per la prima volta che, senza averlo capito, lui non aveva bisogno di formarsi una nuova famiglia per non essere solo: ne ha già una, formata dai suoi compagni di squadra e le loro mogli, sempre pronti a sostenerlo e anche a dare una mano in caso di bisogno. E durante lo svolgersi della storia vedremo molte volte i compagni prestarsi ad aiutare lui e Carla in vari modi.
È una storia d’amore fra due persone che hanno avuto un’infanzia non facile, che li ha portati a prendere decisioni che continuano a influire sulla loro vita. Si amano da tempo, ma il non essere onesti fino in fondo rischierà più volte di minare in modo grave il loro rapporto. Lo svolgersi della trama è abbastanza lineare e tutta l’azione viene riservata nel momento in cui la squadra scende in campo nelle molte partite che vi troverete ad assistere. Tutto riesce a essere coinvolgente e interessante e queste coppie riescono a entrare nel cuore del lettore. È davvero un piacere per me ritornare a tifare per i Connecticut Kings e vedere cosa succede nelle loro vite, e sono davvero curiosa di scoprire cosa succederà al giovane Harley. Lui ha accettato di partecipare a Marriage Minded, sperando di riuscire a trovare una donna che gli faccia dimenticare la persona che ama davvero, e che è convinto non potrà mai avere. Ma ancora di più, mi incuriosisce la reazione del Coach Sebastian non appena si renderà conto che uno dei suoi giocatori che ha fama di grande sciupafemmine si sta avvicinando pericolosamente alle sue figlie. Prevedo scintille e molti duri allenamenti. Una bella serie che mischia amore e sport in modo estremamente piacevole e che regala bollenti e passionali scene di sesso davvero ben scritto, aiutato da una traduzione davvero riuscita.

I love the name to this book, as the last in the series it is very fitting. While all the books focused on an individual couple or player we were still given small snippets into what was going on in the other character/players lives. This book was a bit different as it was composed of small short snippets or stories about the players we have come to love combined in a way to give some type of closure as the players metaphorically leave the field. The kings went through lots of changes over the course of this series, some good and some bad. They fell in love, got hurt, drafted new friends, got married, had kids , made us laugh, cry and want to smack them sometimes. Ms. Joachim pulled us into her world and made them real to us, they became friends and family. I liked getting a last look at what was happening in their lives and that they still pulled together when one of them was in need. Having this last gimps left the reader with smile and made the sadness of this great series ending a little easier to take. I would like to thank Ms. Joachim for such an entertaining and enjoyable reading opportunity and hope that as she hinted at the end ,she may revisit the Kings again in the future.

The story of Al "Trunk" and Carla has been a secret for awhile even from each other. Carla has always wanted Al from the beginning then she saw the Wedding Band. Al has been attracted since then too but he will always be faithful to his wife. What will happen to the marriage that will finally bring these two together and will they be able to get over the secret that they both have that they think will tear them apart?

I have to say, by far this is my favorite of the series. If I said that before, that is because this one wasn't written yet. Trunk and Carla have so many layers to them that they try to keep hidden. I love that they cannot hide those layers from each other.

Al “Trunk” Mahoney is a professional football player. He’s good looking, good at what he does, and the nicest guy you’ll ever meet. He’s devastated when he gets the news that his wife is filing for divorce. He can’t believe he’s going to be single again. He takes the news pretty hard, filling the void with booze at his favorite bar, The Savage Beast. The Savage Beast is run by Carla. Carla is a hardworking, independent, beautiful woman who works diligently every single day to make sure she has enough for rent. Money is a constant struggle, especially when football season is over and business is slow. Carla is really good friends with Trunk. She’s always been there to support him through it all, and he needs it the most during this hard time. To get out of the house he used to own with his wife, he moves into Carla’s spare bedroom. They find themselves spending a lot of time together, either having a meal together, or just hanging out while she works the bar. Carla has always liked Trunk, but he’s been a married man, and she doesn’t mess with married men. Trunk has always thought Carla was absolutely stunning, and now that he’s going to be single again, he’s definitely got his sights set on her. The passion and tension is evident between the two since they’ve been living in such close proximity. While football season progresses and Trunk’s divorce is being finalized, Carla can’t help but wonder what it would be like to be with Trunk. The two eventually share a kiss, and it all goes uphill from there. Will Trunk and Carla finally be able to have a relationship together? Or will secrets threaten to tear them apart?
This was such a well written book! I absolutely loved the relationship between Trunk and Carla, and the rest of the football players made this book excellent! You can’t help but love the characters and root for the team. Jean Joachim does a wonderful job writing this book, and it definitely one I would highly recommend!

Absolutely the sweetest, most heartfelt book in the First & Ten series. I never thought that Trunk would be the one of my favorites. He seemed like such a player throughout the rest of the series. But boy was I wrong.
Trunk's actual character is so different from what we've seen previously. He is truly a sweetheart, a big teddy bear, albeit a VERY HOT one. The author did a wonderful job of really opening him up for the reader. The same goes for Carla. She has been on the fringe in the other stories but the reader gets to under stand her motivation to succeed and her love for her restaurant.
Two characters couldn't be more perfect for each other and you just can't wait to see how it ends. I couldn't put it down. The story is sweet, romantic, and oh so hot! It's like the dark chocolate candy bars with chili powder, you think you can get away with taking a little bite but you end up eating the whole thing!

I love, love, loved Trunk and Carla's story. I think this may be the best one yet in this series. When we read a little about Trunk in the previous stories, I pictured him as the unfaithful typical jock who does who and what he wants when he is out on the road. I was so wrong. Yes, some of what he did may be construed as unfaithful - it's a very fine line - but to read his story and why, your heart breaks for him. Carla is just who he needs. Her love, compassion, determination, drive, and strength are perfect. She is not a weak, whiney woman in need of rescue - she is strong and independent, but still compassionate and loving. And OMG the stone house and Trunk's memory of his mom...it just tears at your heart. Talk about finding the perfect house, the perfect love, finding your place in life with the right person. Jean has outdone herself with Trunk's story.

Another fantastic addition to the First & Ten series.
As always, Ms. Joachim dug deep and pulled out a fistful of emotion, passion, drama and humor. I couldn't help but fall in love with Al and Carla. They were not the standard cookie cutter romance couple and that really set them apart. There are a few twists and turns in the plot which kept things rolling along, the characters are all realistic, the dialog is down-to-earth and exactly what I would expect to hear from a bunch of football players. Speaking of football, the action on the field is wonderfully written and pulls the reader right into the game. Of course, Ms. Joachim also knows how to pen a spicy, sensual bedroom scene, so those are as enjoyable as ever.
Anyone who loves sports romance will want to pick up a copy and get to know Al "Trunk" Mahoney better!

January 11, 2016The surprises in this book was wow!! I can not believe the surprises especially the one. Now, you have to read the book to find out these surprises especially the one that knocked me down. I can not think how I would of felt. Yes, I do know. I would be mad as hell if I was Trunk, but he took it very well. My favorite part was when Trunk found the stone house and the memories of his mother. Sweet and sad.
This book had everything I look for in a book. Surprises, romance, and lots of emotions. Very well written. I hope there are more books in this series.

Loved the story of Trunk and Carla. I wasn't sure how I was going to get attached to Trunk, but once I found out his back story, I couldn't help but fall in to like with him. Was he one of my favorite of the players? No, but I really did enjoy his story.
I really liked Carla as well. She is such a sweet girl. I wish we would have had a wee bit more of her back story though.
Great story line, easy to become attached to characters, the dialogue flowed nicely and the descriptions to details were done well.
This written as a multi pov. Even though this is part of a series, it can be read as a stand alone.
All in all, another great read.

This was my favorite of the first & ten series so far. Don't get me wrong I loved them all but Al "Trunk" Mahoney was the biggest surprise. A minor character in the previous books, he did not have a stellar reputation and was just as misunderstood as Bull. He was not all about flash but wanted a home and to be loved ,needed and valued. Carla was the perfect fit for Trunk , she worked hard and wanted someone to love her for herself. They were both scared to trust even when the playbook was open to the same page. Easy to read, fast paced, great characters and the ever amusing Kings football team are sure to keep you glued to your seat. A great series if you love fun interesting characters and football. I look forward to seeing who gets the ball in the next story.

What a wonderful way to wrap up a superb series!
Granted, I am going to miss the men and women that laugh and love in the Kings world. I feel as if I have grown to know all of them personally, that's how talented Ms. Joachim is. She creates characters that we feel a family bond with. We laugh and cry with them and when they leave we miss them.
If you've followed the First & Ten series this final book is a must read. I'm looking forward to the next series Ms. Joachim has in store for us! I suspect it will be another home run...or touchdown.

Thoroughly enjoyed this dynamic couple:) Carla is independent and Trunk appreciates it, then gradually grows to enjoy her thoughtfulness and kindness which his ex-wife had not been able to show.
This is a wonderful case of two wounded people who find each other and show the other the true meaning of love and partnership. Wonderful story, Jean! Looking forward to Harley's story!

This could have been a difficult book to follow, with the vast number of active characters in its roster, but Ms. Joachim smoothly leads the reader through the team, introducing them each individually.

Al Trunk Mahoney pensa di avere una vita felice, defensive lineman dei Kings, squadra di football prossima a partecipare al Superbowl, una moglie che lo aspetta a casa e degli amici con cui condividere lavoro e risate. Fino a quando durante un allenamento riceve un sms da Mary in cui c’è scritto che tra loro è finita, perché ha incontrato un’altra donna e vuole il divorzio. Per Al questo è un duro colpo, tutte le sue certezze crollano e si ritrova di nuovo solo, senza nessuno da cui tornare a casa la sera che lo accolga con un abbraccio.
Rimasto orfano in tenera età, e sbattuto da una casa all’altra tra i vari parenti rimasti, cresce con l’unico sogno di trovare un giorno un po’ di quel calore umano che solo una vera famiglia può darti.

Tra di loro c’è sempre stata una chimica pazzesca, Al non è il classico sportivo tutti muscoli e niente cuore, e Carla è sensuale e bellissima.
Il giocatore le aveva rivolto un ghigno sexy e aveva lasciato vagare lo sguardo ardente dei suoi bellissimi occhi azzurri su di lei. Trunk Mahoney era sesso su due gambe e lei l’aveva desiderato, finché non aveva notato la sua mano sinistra
È una donna che ha sempre contato sulle proprie forze per tenere a galla il locale facendo del suo meglio per accontentare i clienti con il suo charme schietto e diretto e quando le si presenta l’occasione, la prende al volo e chiede a Trunk Mahoney di prendere in affitto la stanza al piano di sopra. Inizia così una convivenza molto particolare, entrambi percepiscono la forte chimica sessuale, tra baci roventi e abbuffate a tarda notte, scoprono di non essere poi così diversi; entrambi desiderano soltanto un compagno di vita, che li tenga al sicuro e ci sia sempre nei momenti di bisogno. La loro storia parte lentamente, perché dei segreti nascosti nel loro passato, rischiano di compromettere per sempre la relazione. Riusciranno a superare le loro più recondite paure e vivere appieno questo sentimento?
Smeraldi il 3 febbraio ci sarà la finale del Superbowl e da assidua sostenitrice di questo sport, non potevo farmi sfuggire la lettura di questo romanzo. Il football americano è poco conosciuto in Italia, soprattutto tra le donne, ma da maschio mancato quale sono, conosco bene le regole e tutto l’interesse mediatico che c’è nella finale della stagione della NFL. Durante le partite di football due squadre di 11 omoni partono alla conquista del territorio tra passaggi e placcaggi per arrivare dritti alla meta e segnare il touchdown. E’ uno sport di squadra dove tutti hanno un ruolo preciso e in questo romanzo il ruolo del nostro Al (Trunk = tronco) Mahoney è quello del difensore, da qui deriva il soprannome tronco. La sua vita è sempre stata dettata da questo sport, fin da piccolo per sfuggire alla sua triste realtà si è buttato anima e corpo nel football, dove, grazie al Coach e ai compagni di squadra, sentiva di appartenere ad una famiglia. Il suo estremo bisogno di essere amato e protetto, e quel calore umano che tanto agogna, lo cerca anche nella sua amica Carla che prova per lui dei sentimenti mai dichiarati, perché sposato e quindi inavvicinabile. E’ una storia pura, semplice, senza troppe regole, dove i sentimenti giocano il ruolo principale. Non ci sono grandi colpi di scena, ma questo non toglie nulla all’evolversi della trama. Assistiamo allo sbocciare del loro amore in un modo così dolce e naturale che alla fine del libro facciamo il tifo per questa coppia bellissima. Nella vita non servono grandi colpi di scena o esibizioni di nessun tipo, perché le cose belle nascono nella più totale semplicità. Alla prossima lettura la vostra Queen Morena!

Jean Joachim is the MVP of sports romance once again. Whenever she publishes a new ebook in this genre I scramble to get it, whether it’s her grand slam “Bottom of the Ninth” baseball romance series (now sadly completed I suspect) or her equally wonderful new “First and Ten” football romance series. “Al ‘Trunk’ Mahoney, Defensive Line” is a perfect example of why this is so. Another touchdown hit (yes, I’m being a bit cutesy with the accolades, it just seems warranted), with wonderfully drawn characters, a great love story between bar owner Carla Ricci and massive hunk-with-a-heart Al and nicely done Connecticut Kings sports action game day and otherwise, as the fictional team pushes its way into the playoffs in its attempt to get to and win the the Super Bowl. As with all of these sorts of novels, we’ve met both h and H before in prior books. Carla was always a fave character - she was actually the close “friend with benefits” of the team Quarterback in the first book of the series and appeared in later series stories in a supporting role. Al also appeared - and came off as the biggest sexist jerk of the series. Don’t worry though as he’s actually much deeper and his earlier behavior makes sense once you know his backstory. The conversion of Al from a “I hate that jerk of s character” to “I love him” is actually an impressive achievement in itself. But with this author that’s par for the course (yes, I know that’s the wrong sport to use as an analogy here, but please go with it).
You can read this book on a standalone basis easily, but I strongly recommend that you start with series book 1 (“Griff Montgomery, Quarterback”) as it will enhance the pleasure from this book, and you’ll appreciate the bonus of updates on couples and other characters from prior series books.
So, to bottom line it: great plot, superbly written and with wonderfully crafted lead and supporting characters. A touchdown indeed - and highly recommended.

Oggi vi parlo del romanzo Al "Trunk" Mahoney, Defensive Line di Jean Joachim.
Premetto che è il primo romanzo che leggo di questa autrice e devo ammettere di essere piacevolmente colpita dalla scrittura e dalla conoscenza che ha nel descrivere le partite del football americano. Leggendo mi sono sentita partecipe del gioco di squadra dei Kings. In questo romanzo incontriamo Al Trunk, il Defensive Line della squadra che nella vita ha dovuto guadagnarsi la fama con il suo duro lavoro e la caparbietà. Pensava di avere tutto dopo aver sposato Mary, ma si ricrede quando, da un momento all'altro, sua moglie chiede il divorzio.
Dopo quattro anni di matrimonio Trunk ha creduto finalmente di fare parte di una famiglia, ma si sbagliava. Carla Ricci, la proprietaria del Savage Beast e sua grande amica, che da sempre ha una cotta per lui, decide di affittargli una stanza al piano di sopra del suo locale. Entrambi si sentono attratti l'uno dall'altra, ma non sanno come dirselo. Carla ha sempre fatto tutto da sola nella vita e Al Trunk è la sua cotta di sempre, ma crede di non essere all'altezza del Defensive Line, in più ha un segreto che potrebbe allontanarlo da lui.
Al Trunk vuole essere apprezzato, vuole avere una famiglia, desidera far parte della vita di qualcuno e quella persona potrebbe essere la sua amica Carla, che per lei ha sempre provato dei forti sentimenti che prima non poteva rivelarle. Ma anche lui ha paura di perderla per il segreto che custodisce.
Questo romanzo è carico di passione, romanticismo e si divide tra le importanti partite per arrivare e vincere il Super Bowl e l' amore tra i due protagonisti. La storia si suddivide tra i pov di Carla e Al Trunk, ma non mancheranno anche alcuni personaggi che si trovano all'interno del romanzo.
Una storia che mi è piaciuta molto, mi sono sentita coinvolta emotivamente nelle riflessioni dei due protagonisti, nelle loro vittorie e anche nei momenti tristi.

Al is one of my favorite Characters in this series. I like the least likely hero type guy and Al could push your buttons.I also Like Carla and was so glad to see both Al and Carla's story. She is strong and feisty but also has a heart of gold. They perfectly fit together.
we also get more of the other characters too.
The story is interesting and there were several twists, a touch of humor and of course some sensual lovemaking. And of course, it's a football romance so the on-field scenes were well done too!
Jim Roberts adds the perfect touch to the narration by not just reading but by voice acting, the scenes as well. he gives the story an added depth.
If you like tough guys, strong female leads, twists, good football and some sensual loving this is for you!

I love reading Jean Joachim's First and Ten Series during football season. This was one of the best in the series. It's a very emotional and suspenseful romance, as we learn about the secrets keeping this couple emotionally apart. The conclusion is very satisfying as they both make their dreams come true with each other!

In quest'ultimo periodo sto scoprendo che molte lettrici cominciano ad apprezzare il genere sport/romance, beh mi affianco a loro anche se lo seguo da diverso tempo, come questa serie che è giunta agli sgoccioli.
I King squadra della NFL è prossima a raggiungere l'ennesimo traguardo il super bowl, premio ambito del football americano, nei precedenti romanzi, in particolare nell'ultimo, sono stata decisamente catturata dalla storia ma questa volta, nonostante lo spirito ci fosse, non c'è stato nessun cuore trafitto.
Protagonista di questo capitolo è Trunk Mahoney, uno dei migliori difensori dei King, un tronco, proprio come viene chiamato da tutti, per la sua muscolatura, la sua fisicità e soprattutto per il ruolo che ha in squadra, uno scontro contro di lui è meglio evitarlo.
Trunk è stato lasciato dalla moglie Mary, già in precendeza, nelle varie storie già lette, questa donna è spesso citata, proprio come la compagna del campione, ma sempre in modo secondario, infatti, Mary non ama essere presente negli eventi del marito, il più delle volte si dilegua, ma a Trunk questo va bene, il suo più grande desiderio è tornare a casa e trovare il fuoco del camino acceso e una moglie che lo aspetti magari per festeggiare con lui l'ennesima vittoria.
Le cose però da un po' di tempo sono cambiate, e Trunk è costretto a fare i conti con una nuova realtà, essere rimasto nuovamente solo, una cosa che lui odia e che non avrebbe voluto accadesse.
Carla Ricci (sarà di origini italiane? Non è dato saperlo), gestisce un locale che durante le partite dei King viene completamente occupato dai tifosi ma è anche meta degli stessi giocatori che dopo un allenamento o un evento sono soliti incontrarsi per bere, mangiare...
Tra Trunk e Carla c'è una sottile linea di demarcazione che la donna sceglie di non oltrepassare, ma quando scopre che l'uomo dei suoi sogni è stato lasciato, le sue decisioni cominciano a vacillare.
Trunk ha sempre guardato Carla con un certo interesse ma l'essere sposato non gli ha permesso mai di andare oltre un semplice apprezzamento, ora invece, le cose sono cambiate e quella strana scintilla che gli morde lo stomaco è tornata prepotentemente a farsi sentire.
Entrambi però si conoscono poco e conoscono poco l'uno dell'altro, il loro passato, le loro scelte, i loro segreti che se non svelati e chiariti metteranno a rischio una relazione alquanto passionale.
Allora, veniamo a noi, cosa non mi ha convinta di questo nuovo capitolo, la figura di entrami in primis, Trunk mi sembra un bambino a cui hanno tolto la cioccolata e si commisera per non essere riuscito nel suo intento e cioè conservarla integra, la sua storia con Mary lo porta a dubitare di tutto e soprattutto sulle sue capacità, invece, Carla, sembra una donna forte, capace di gestire un locale super affollato, di rispondere ad avance e profferte poco carine ma si scioglie come neve quando è alle prese con Trunk, tanto che ho mal sopportato i continui piagnistei, le lacrime facili non sono mai di mio gusto, soprattutto quando "cozzano" con figure presentate in modo esuberante e appariscente.
La storia comunque resta sempre ottima e bella, perché l'autrice riesce a far interagire anche gli altri personaggi della serie, dai vecchi ai nuovi arrivati.
Quindi che dirvi un stop and go momentaneo che sono sicura si rifarà al prossimo capitolo che viene già anticipato dalla stessa Jaochim, sarà Harley Brennan.

Allora, veniamo a noi, cosa non mi ha convinta di questo nuovo capitolo, la figura di entrami in primis, Trunk mi sembra un bambino a cui hanno tolto la cioccolata e si commisera per non essere riuscito nel suo intento e cioè conservarla integra, la sua storia con Mary lo porta a dubitare di tutto e soprattutto sulle sue capacità, invece, Carla, sembra una donna forte, capace di gestire un locale super affollato, di rispondere ad avance e profferte poco carine ma si scioglie come neve quando è alle prese con Trunk, tanto che ho mal sopportato i continui piagnistei, le lacrime facili non sono mai di mio gusto, soprattutto quando "cozzano" con figure presentate in modo esuberante e appariscente.
La storia comunque resta sempre ottima e bella, perché l'autrice riesce a far interagire anche gli altri personaggi della serie, dai vecchi ai nuovi arrivati.
Quindi che dirvi un stop and go momentaneo che sono sicura si rifarà al prossimo capitolo che viene già anticipato dalla stessa Jaochim, sarà Harley Brennan.

Recensione a cura di Barbara: tre stelle e mezzo.
Negli episodi precedenti (posso ben dirlo, essendo ormai al sesto libro della serie!) abbiamo conosciuto Trunk Mahoney come un personaggio tutt'altro che "carino”: seppur sposato, ama l'alcool e i locali di streap tease, non partecipa a nessun evento in compagnia della moglie e soprattutto non ama parlare del suo rapporto con lei. Ma, come spesso succede, sotto l'apparenza si nasconde una realtà ben diversa. Dopo la notifica di divorzio scopre che Mary gli ha tenuto nascosto un segreto piuttosto grosso e che tutta la sua idea di famiglia felice non ha mai avuto fondamento. Trunk, infatti, essendo rimasto orfano giovanissimo e non avendo mai ricevuto affetto dagli zii che lo hanno preso in affidamento, sogna da sempre di crearsi una sua famiglia, di avere una casa e qualcuno che lo aspetti. Decide così di dare un colpo di spugna al passato e di mettere in vendita la casa: per questo motivo prende in affitto una stanza sopra il bar "The Savage Beast", dove passa quasi tutte le sere, di proprietà di Carla Ricci.
Carla è una donna forte e indipendente con una regola inderogabile nelle sue relazioni, per cui viene lasciata perché nessuno riesce a comprenderla. Da tempo nutre una profonda attrazione per Trunk a cui non ha mai dato seguito perché sposato. Adesso che lui è libero, è comunque titubante per via della sua famosa decisione e, pur pensando che potrebbe valer la pena tentare, ha paura di ritrovarsi con il cuore spezzato.
La chimica però tra loro è troppo forte per poter resistere e si ritrovano così, non solo compagni di casa, ma anche di letto. È una storia d'amore fra due persone fragili e segnate dal passato, però troppi segreti e troppi timori impediscono loro di esternare i sentimenti e li tengono ancorati al livello base di una relazione che potrebbe invece renderli molto felici.
Mi è piaciuto un po’ di più dei libri precedenti, la storia è più interessante e coinvolgente, ma credo sempre che non vada mai completamente a fondo nelle situazioni e che si risolvano in maniera frettolosa e senza pathos. E nota negativa sulla regola fondamentale di Carla, che non vi racconto per non spoilerare troppo: se condivido che ognuno nella propria vita possa essere libero di fare le sue scelte, non condivido le parole e le giustificazioni che sono state date per motivare tale scelta. D’altro canto, ho apprezzato i temi importanti che vengono toccati e il messaggio positivo dell'amicizia e della famiglia e del senso di appartenza alla squadra e alla comunità.
Consigliato come sempre per chi è in chi cerca di una lettura leggera e per chi ama gli sport romance con tanti dettagli tecnici.
Pur finendo leggermente in crescendo, il voto rimane invariato... Confido nel prossimo volume, sono sincera!

The First and Ten series is amazing as a whole, but Trunk's story is one that really stands out to me. Trunk has regularly appeared in the previous stories in the series and really he never shines in a positive light. His story really changed how I viewed him. In the other stories he really comes off as a womanizer and the story lines infer that he's a cheat, but it didn't take long to see that there was another side to him.
I loved the vulnerable side of Trunk that we see in this story. The pain, insecurity and the desire to be loved really bought Trunk to a different level. As we read more about his relationship with Mary it helps to ease the opinion the reader forms of him in previous books. I very easily fell in love with the big man that was hurting so much. I loved watching him find his way and find a woman who could be everything he needed.
Carla is probably one of my favorite women in the series. She's tough and sassy, determined to make it on her own, be her own woman, even it means that she has to walk away from her family and the one man who she loves. I just adored her spirit. She was everything Trunk needed, sympathetic, a friend, a lover, and a caretaker. I definitely felt the chemistry between the two of them.
I loved getting caught up with the team. At this point the series is getting too big to read about all the previous characters, so I like how Jean included them all at different parts, but only went in depth in a couple of chapters on focused couples, like Griff and Lauren. I hope there are more stories coming! I want to see more of where these stories go and I feel like there are several more players that need their stories told!
Overall, this is another winner for Jean!

This is the first time reading anything by Ms Joachim and I must say I thoroughly enjoyed this touching story. The author has given us a story that will pulls you into it's pages from the start to the end, the emotions of drama, passion, and some good humor .along with some twists and turns in the plots will keep things rolling ahead . The characters are really realistic and their dialog is right down to earth. As I was reading this story I felt like I was right there listen to a bunch of footballs players talking , the football action in this story was written so well and pulls and holds you on the edge of your seat ,well wishing for more. Ms Joachim can really write a steamy hot sex scenes that is really enjoyable to read. This is Al "Trunk" Mahoney and Carla's touching story, Trunk and Carla seems to be the perfect couple if it wasn't for the fact that Trunk is married . But Trunk and Carla has been fighting their feels for each other, but since Truck has met Carla he's been attracted to her . But Carla is seeing someone else at this time . I could go on and tell you so much more about this touching story but that would spoil it for you. I highly recommend that you read this great story ,because you won't be disappointed.

I love the name to this book, as the last in the series it is very fitting. While all the books focused on an individual couple or player we were still given small snippets into what was going on in the other character/players lives. This book was a bit different as it was composed of small short snippets or stories about the players we have come to love combined in a way to give some type of closure as the players metaphorically leave the field. The kings went through lots of changes over the course of this series, some good and some bad. They fell in love, got hurt, drafted new friends, got married, had kids , made us laugh, cry and want to smack them sometimes. Ms. Joachim pulled us into her world and made them real to us, they became friends and family. I liked getting a last look at what was happening in their lives and that they still pulled together when one of them was in need. Having this last gimps left the reader with smile and made the sadness of this great series ending a little easier to take. I would like to thank Ms. Joachim for such an entertaining and enjoyable reading opportunity and hope that as she hinted at the end ,she may revisit the Kings again in the future.

As the final book in the First and Ten series, I think this was the perfect way to close out the series. Each chapter was devoted to a specific couple we've read before (you definitely want to read each individual book first). The reason I only gave the book 4 stars instead of the usual 5 stars for a Jean Joachim book is that I felt some of the couples had a more definite ending to their story while others still left some gaps. I think that the intention of the book was to tie up all the lose ends and I felt that when I turned the last page, there was still a few unanswered questions.
As always, Jean's writing and storytelling was spot on. Even though each couple had limited pages, they had a clear beginning, plot and for most a conclusive ending. I loved the overall conclusion of the book, it was a great way to leave the Kings!

What a great way to end a series. In each book in the First and Ten Series we get to know more about a specific player and their love interest. Throughout the series we did get little updates on previous couples, which I loved, but now Jean has wrapped up this series with a great “play-by-play” for each of the Kings’ players we have come to love. I absolutely love how she did it by giving separate chapters for each player. With them having separate chapters, it was easy to sit back and remember each of the Kings and their story, how they found/fell in love, and I guess… feel a sense of closure. Do I want this to be the end, of course not! I am still holding out hope they these Kings will pester Jean until she just has to give us more!

What a great way to wrap up the series.
I have loved this series since book 1 and I have to admit, I hate to see it end...but then I am looking forward to the next series.
This book is written as a multi pov. This is also the last of the series, and CAN NOT be read as a stand alone. This book gives us the insight on what is going on after each characters book. It was nice to read that not every one's ending was picture perfect, yes they each have HEA endings, but struggles were still had by a few of the couples. It makes it feel more real and let me enjoy the story even more.

I loved how this book was written. Each chapter is a different character. My favorite character is Harley. He showed great pride in what he had to do and did not want to mess up. I love that we got to see what the characters were up to and it gave us, the readers, some closure to the end of this series.
I will miss reading about the Kings, but I look forward to Ms Joachim's new series.

I’ve adored this series. I think I reviewed each book and gave all of the five stars. All well deserved. This final book is simply an extra treat. Think of it as an extended epilogue for each of the books in the series, all woven together into a single story. For fans of First & Ten this book is an absolute “must buy”. For newcomers it’s not the place to start - but I urge you to go to book 1 in the series. You’ll soon be addicted and by the time you reach this book you’re guaranteed to love it.
