In the Picture

Rate this book
Here, in one big book, are ten exciting, detailed paintings, each surrounded by six small close-ups from the work. Every spread carries a simple note about its picture, date, and artist, and more activities at the end of the book get young readers looking and thinking. The artists range from familiar names such as Hieronymus Bosch and Jan Breughel the Elder to modern painters such as Marc Chagall and Georges Seurat, and also include a Moghul, a manuscript and trompe l'oeil painting, all chosen from the world's greatest art galleries, including The Museum of Modern Art (New York) and The J. Paul Getty Museum (Los Angeles).

This participation book features ten famous works of art. The book prompts readers to find specific images in the paintings. Each painting is accompanied by a short description about the painting and artist. There is also a "Just For Fun" extension activity on each page. This book is great to get kids thinking about art and analyzing the details in art. This book would be suitable for elementary students, especially 2nd to 5th graders.

Very cool book and an excellent conversation starter for middle readers about art. Most of pictures chosen are not too difficult and it really allows the reader to decide the amount of activity they want to use with the book.

This book would be very good with a small group of children.
