When Europe Went Mad: A Brief History of the First World War
"When Europe Went A Brief History of the First World War" is not your typical World War I read. Terence T. Finn offers his readers the important facts of one of the most significant wars in human history, yet presents it in a concise and comprehensive style meant for the common reader and history buff alike. "When Europe Went Mad" recounts the harrowing events of a war now nearly a century behind us, and boldly tells the story of the American Expeditionary Force (AEF). Finn reminds the reader that well before General Dwight D. Eisenhower led American G.I.s into combat (1943-1945), John J. Pershing took an American army 'over there' and made history. With grace, Finn resurrects an understanding of this war's significance and ensures that its worldwide impacts, and the lives lost in the name of it, are never forgotten.

Good quick overview of WWI history, insight into causes, motivations, tactics, losses. Pretty sobering stuff. Makes one want to delve deeper into the subject.

This Book tells the story of Loyalty ,Bravery and sacrifice of the German ,British , French , Russian, American,Austro-Hungarian and other beligerant nations of The First World War . It tells the story of hereos like German heroes like August Mackensen ,Erich Falykenheim ,Manfred Von Richtofen ,Erwin Rommel and Kaiser Wilhelm II . ,American heroes like Eddie Rickenbacker ,John Pershing ,Woodrow Wilson and Harry Truman , British heroes like T.E Lawrence and French heroes like Ferdinand Foch and others such as the ANZAZCS . This book discusses a war in which novels have used hundreds of pages to describe while this book took few. A unique experince I actually had this book signed by the author ! At the WWII weekend in Reading ,PA in which we went to from Maine to see WWII planes and Tanks . If I were a history teacher I would strongly recommend to a student who is laging behind in WWI history .

I got this book at the library today and finished it. It is a short, concise history of the First World War. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn about WWI and is just starting. I only wish it paid more attention to certain events, such as Archduke Ferdinand's assassination. Overall, a good book.

My daughter studied ww I I middle school, and I h ave to admit I realized I was more than a little fuzzy on the facts. This is a well done short overview of the war from a military standpoint and a good chronology of events. A great evening/weekend refresher

A concise, short summary of WWI. an interesting overview. I look forward to his larger, similar work on all the US wars.

Short (less than 100 pages) history of World War I. Good introduction for someone new to the subject, but it doesn't break a lot of new ground.

Very quick overview of WWI in a compact 72 pages. The information is well-presented, but the writing is sometimes clunky. Still, great start to the subject and has an extensive bibliography.

Short, brief, but to the point. A lot of good information here as a jumping off point for some more in-depth research.
