This paperback book, distributed by Barnes & Noble, is fully illustrated throughout. It contains the design and specifications of 75 of the most important military aircraft developed since World War II. From the early jets such as the Convair F-106, MiG-15, and English Electric Lightning, to modern superfighters such as the Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptor, Dassault Rafale, and the Eurofighter Typhoon.
Robert Jackson was born in 1941 in the North Yorkshire village of Melsonby. A former pilot and navigation instructor, his active involvement with aviation lasted many years. Following his retirement from the RAFVR in 1977 as a squadron leader, he became a full-time aviation writer and aerospace correspondent and lectured extensively on strategic issues. He speaks five languages, including Russian, and has written more than forty nonfiction works on military affairs. He is also the author of the popular Yeoman and SAS fiction series.
My edition is published by Amber in 2017. The size format and bendy plastic cover make it attractive and nice to hold. The drawings are excellent.
For some planes, notably the General Dynamics EF-111A Raven, the inclusion is frustratingly version specific. Everyone knows this plane as the F-111 of which the EF-111A is one specific later version. I would prefer it if it was in the book as the F-111 and the version history was in the write up.
Generally however the information is good and I would say very readable and much better than the old Observers books.
This is a good informational text. This books covers the development, weaponry, specifications, and design of a lot of modern aircrafts up to the year 2000. Great for research or use in a classroom library. This is a great book to get boys interested in reading.
