Aspiring actress Katie Nolan is delighted to land a part on the television soap opera, "All That Glitters," but life becomes complicated when she falls for her co-star Mitch Callahan, the boyfriend of her friend and fellow actress, Shana Bradbury.
I've had this little 8 volume series on my shelf for ages and finally decided to do a re-read.
The good first: All That Glitters is a fantastic name for a soap opera and book series. Like truly, love it so much. Setting a teen series in the world of soaps was genius and in a pre-90210 world (where teens began to rule the tv truly,) it's fun to remember how soap operas launched a lot of later stars.
That said, this needed a lot more drama to make it truly spectacular and it sort of failed. The lead male, Mitch, is one of the most annoying boys I've read and that's saying a lot, considering I've sat through endless Bruce Patman books. Our lead heroine, Katie, is taking a bit part on Glitters which is fairly racy, and she fights her father throughout the book to prove herself.
There's a director who tries to take advantage of her and an on-set best friend who takes her clubbing and shopping but somehow it still manages to feel pretty dry.
