Rate this book
A world of puppy adventure from the author of the Magic Kitten series, which has sold over a million copies! On holiday with her mum and dad in Spain, Della is feeling lonely and bored - her cousin Chloe couldn't make it at the very last moment and even the swimming pool where Della is staying is smelly and full of gunk. It doesn't look like a very fun holiday until tiny and fluffy yorkshire terrier puppy, Storm, magically arrives. Suddenly everything looks a little brighter!

This was a book that has been passed onto me and since I haven't read any of the first eleven books of the series I have no idea what I was getting into with this book, which is number twelve.

Sunshine Shimmers starts off with basically a Prologue that does't seem to really relate at first glance to the world of the book that we have just picked up as it is some type of fantasy realm in which the main denizens are magical wolves. Unlike her previous series that I read from, Magical Kitten, the scenario is more realistic when it comes to actual wolf behavior.

From there the story's first two chapters set the stage for the plot of the rest of the story while introducing the other main characters in the book as well as the issue they will be facing although a bit more indirectly in this book. There is no mention of any previous events from any of the other prior books in the series nor does the book really end on a cliffhanger that will lead to the next book thus the reader who may be averse to all books that must be written in a series can read it as a standalone as long as they don't really care to know what occurs to Storm in the other books.

If I were to base the series off of this one book I would probably say that it is much more disappointing than the one book I read in the aforementioned series. The main problem is an entitled mean-spirited girl and instead of our primary protagonist just finally getting the courage to sever the toxic relationship she continues to pursue a friendship with her even knowing that it can lead to injury or problems in the future. And where was this promising friendship in which Della would have made friends with her hostess' daughter thus providing the reader with an international friendship that didn't seem so toxic?

There really isn't much besides that for this particular story and it seems like Storm as a puppy (and again what is with a wolf choosing such a weaker as well as smaller breed to disguise themselves in?) has a lot more freedom than Flame did in his own respective series even in banishment.

In the end unless there is a much better book in this series this is one series that will be permanently shelved for me.

I found this book quite engaging. Though this book is the twelve of a series, I find it to be a great stand alone. This is another kids book. I wish I read the series when I was younger because I probably would've loved it.
This is the first book I read in the 24 hour readathon hosted by ReadByZoe.
10/10 would recommend to any young readers.

My daughter and I read this book together. She really enjoyed it. It was the first hook we tried in this series. I felt as though we may have been missing out on some important information from previous books, but maybe the ambiguity is simply part of it. Either way, my daughter had fun with this book and we will read others from this series.

Stormy was just a beautiful old dog living in the streets until she met a human named Canista and Canista never realized that stormy was a magic puppy until one day when she used her powers to save Canista! Read to find out if Canista ever found out about stormy's powers!

I loved magic puppy! This book told about how dogs can save their humans even if they are not service dogs!

I recommend this book to kids any age because it is a very good book about magic and fun fairy tales.

A simple little story, but it has magic and a puppy. My 2nd grade daughter ate it up, full of giggles in delight.
