everyone can be a father, but it takes a lot to be a father. I like this book not cringing with it comes to romance, a tear jerker. it would be nice of it if stating what become of their father and his best friend 🤔

I really enjoyed this book, it was very easy to read, and not too taxing. It was a light story, but did have a few gritty moments, and it was full of emotion.
I found the main character, Polly, extremely likable. She grew up on the family farm with her grandparents, who she believed to be her parents until the day of her grandmother's funeral when she finally learned the truth.

I’ve now read 14 books by Diane Allen, with only Village Scandal left on my list — which I will definitely read when i can get my hands on. I can honestly say I have thoroughly enjoyed every single one.
I’ve loved being taken on a journey through different stories and characters, from the 1800s right through to 1938. Diane Allen has a wonderful way of bringing the past to life and making you feel completely immersed in the time period.
If you enjoy historical fiction, strong characters, family stories, hardship, love and life in years gone by, I definitely recommend giving Diane Allen a try.
I’m almost at the end of my Diane Allen journey now… and I’m honestly not sure what I’m going to read next! ❤️📚

I loved this book, easy to read in fact flew through it in a few days. Full of emotions and even made me have a few tears at a couple of chapters.
The main character Polly lives with her parents, but they have a dark secret.
Like a lot of these stories, there is always true love, family arguments, dark secrets, heartache and happiness. Even then this story does feel different.
I found some of the characters very easy to dislike.
Book was well written with emotions on every page, I will look for more like this and by this author too.

3.5 stars(ish)
A bit predictable and I found Tobias's over the top effection a bit oppressive - I was expecting him to turn out to be some sort of nutcase.
I have have walked in the Yorkshire Dales many times, so I liked the descriptions of the area.

This book reminded me of Emma from Jane Austin although set in a very different social order and area of Britain. It would make a really good film. The char hers are good and part of the book also reminds me of withering heights. So a combination of two good books, with a very different story and plots. Plus lots of history too. Well worth a read and suitable for all readers.
