This is an interesting revival of a pulp title. Startling Stories combines reprints from the old pulps with newer stories and features. The Spring 2009 issue reprints Murray Leinster's excellent Operation: Outer Space as well as stories by H. Beam Piper and Otis Adelbert Kline. All of the reprints are top quality. The new material is variable. It ranges from a very well written review of the original Startling Stories accompanied by a cover gallery and fiction list to a story by the editor's son (I am assuming) that I just could not finish. All told this is a good first issue and I will be searching out the others of which I believe six total were published.
