John F. MacArthur, Jr. was a United States Calvinistic evangelical writer and minister, noted for his radio program entitled Grace to You and as the editor of the Gold Medallion Book Award-winning MacArthur Study Bible. MacArthur was a fifth-generation pastor, a popular author and conference speaker, and served as pastor-teacher of Grace Community Church in Sun Valley, California beginning in 1969, as well as President of The Master’s College (and the related Master’s Seminary) in Santa Clarita, California.
Basically, it's just a slimmed-down version of The MacArthur Bible Handbook. You get ~70% of the content for ~45% of the cost. Good if you're on a budget; otherwise, just spend the extra money and get the complete handbook.
A biblical survey of OT and NT. Its quite useful if you want to know which theology contains in what book. Its also useful to study the background of the each book.
I respect MacArthur but disagree with his views on predestination and all five points of Calvinism. I wish I hadn’t purchased this, but at the same time it is good to challenge your views on secondary issues rather than stick one’s head in the sand and/or refuse to fellowship with those who hold different opinions on these theological issues. That said, I have studied Calvinism extensively and my personal view hasn’t changed. There’s no doubt, though, that the author is a very intelligent man with a biblical worldview worth exploring.
