A fine overview of French discoveries and missions, but this material is probably collected better somewhere else. It's largely a history of the "discovery" of the Great Lakes by Europeans, and the role that the French played in it. As you'll learn if you read this book, the "French Regime" was little more than exploration, since they hardly had any enforceable claims to Wisconsin, and the Indians who lived on this land fought with the French as much as they cooperated or traded with them.
