Iraq, Afghanistan, and the Imperialism of Our Time

In a major theoretical intervention, Aijaz Ahmad argues that the US has pursued a consistent policy since World War I and the Bolshevik Revolution aimed at destruction of communism; defeat of Third World nationalism; and establishment of clear and permanent superiority over competitors in the capitalist world. After the dissolution of the USSR, the US has launched a global offensive to impose client regimes in Asia and Africa, and to monopolize the strategic resources of the world. Aijaz Ahmad tracks the wars of occupation in Afghanistan and Iraq as they unfolded within this larger theoretical framework. Inter alia, he also covers a number of related topics: the regime of genocidal sanctions and ferocious bombings by the US-UK alliance over roughly twelve years; the dastardly role of the UN; the ambiguous role of the EU and the currency war between the dollar and the Euro; the politics of oil in Iraq, the Middle East and the Caspian Sea basin; and several other issues of fundamental importance for understanding the imperialism of our time.

Aijaz Ahmadın bu kitabı (e)kitap koleksiyonumda iki yıldır sık sık karşıma çıkıyordu. Ben de Orta Doğu meraklısı biri olarak içeriğine bir göz atmak istedim ve başlayınca da durmak istemedim 😎 Dürüst olucam, bu kitabı okurken araya fazlasıyla kitap girdi. Ben tuğla kalınlığında kitapları en fazla on gün içinde bitirebildiğim bir okuma hevesine sahip olduğum için de bu kitabı okumaya başladığım bir ay öncesinden şimdiyedek araya fazlasıyla kitap sokabildim.

Gelgelelim kitaba. Kitap Hindistanlı yazar Aijaz Ahmad'ın 11 eylül sonrası dönemde yazdığı makalelerden oluşuyor. Adı geçen dönemi yaşamış yazar 11 eylül sonrası dönemde ABD-nin Afganistan ve Irak işgalleri için bir sürü bahale üretmesini konu almıştır. Birçok yerde adı bile geçmeyen gerçekleri (zira batı yazınında bize hep "teröristler" ve "bati karşıtlığı" öğretiliyor) bu kitap bir tokat misali anlatıyor. 11 eylül öncesi koşulları da açıkladığı kitabında Ahmad dünyanın yaşadığı felaketin ve amerikalıların yaşadığı "ulusal güvenlik" anlayışının gerçeklerini onkadar yalın bir dille anlatıyor ki, insanın az daha "komplo" demesi geliyor ama hepsi gerçek. Hepsi yaşandı, zira yazar neredeyse her sayfada amerikan gazetelerinden alıntılar ve amerikan gazetelerinde yansıtılmatan gerçekler tüm yalınlığıyla ortada.
