As a reader, I was a bit confused.
The story starts this way:
"Clever cats with witch's hats
out on Halloween night."
(Then the witch's hats disappeared - entirely.)
"Black, ginger, striped - they roamed about
hidden from sight."
(The three cats are shown once and then they disappeared - entirely."
Am I missing something or the book is really Halloweenish?
