The Vietnamese version is terrible. The translator seemed to make it harder to understand the author's messages. Will move on to English ver.

Considering it was publish in 2001 (English edition)Bourdieu's contributions to feminism are a little late to the game, and it is hard to not read this as the rehashing of a number of older feminist concepts. I also find his final statements on love (transcends domination) to be somewhat contradictory given that he always maintained that Butler's speech utterance could not alter power dynamics, yet here the utterance of pet names among couples can subvert domination. Not his best work.

DNF.
How can a book be so interesting but so boring at the same time ? It's quite simple : take an interesting subject but use only hard words so nobody won't understand a thing.
I'm not giving it 1 because the first part was quite simple to understand, but the second part ...

Bourdieu pioneered investigative frameworks and terminologies such as cultural, social, and symbolic capital, and the concepts of habitus, field or location, and symbolic violence to reveal the dynamics of power relations in social life. His work emphasized the role of practice and embodiment or forms in social dynamics and worldview construction, often in opposition to universalized Western philo ...more
“As if femininity were measured by the art of 'shrinking'... women are held in a kind of invisible enclosure (of which the veil is only the visible manifestation) circumscribing the space allowed for the movements and postures of their bodies (whereas men occupy more space, especially in public places). This symbolic confinement is secured practically by their clothing by their clothing which (as was even more visible in former times) has the effect not only of masking the body but of continuously calling it to order.” 10 likes
