It is, as it states, about perfect piggies. Loved it. Would’ve given 10 stars if I could. Malachi lost interest 3/4 of the way through, but the end had him on the edge of his seat.

May 26, 2021I really like this book now at 16 months. The snout cut-outs in the cover are splendid! My mom still sings this rather poorly, but I don't mind. I even sing along with the part that goes, "Wee, wee, wee, all the way home..." I am very interested in the pictures, especially the duck in the cool shades. 😎 I can't quite figure him out. 👶

A passel of pigs sing a song about how amazing pigs are, because of their delightful ears, curly tails, their snouts, and their general pink plumpness. Other animals may be smarter or more stylish, but these pigs are fabulous and chubby and they have mega-watt smiles.
Those pigs are just so cute and cuddly! The illustrations are very sweet and silly, and I love the simple cartoon art style. Every page is so bright and colorful that it is sure to attract the attention of young readers.
The best thing about this book is the rhythm of the text, which are song lyrics that will have you clapping your hands along with the music. You can visit the publishers website to listen to a recording of the music, or make up your own tune to sing as you read.

Toddler requested this from the back of another Boynton book. You can't go wrong with any of these. I'm a bigger fan of the ones that aren't songs, but we listened to this one first and it helped me get the rhythm of how it should be read.

Sandra Boynton, Perfect Piggies! (Workman, 1996)
There's been a wave over the past fifteen years or so regarding fat acceptance. There's a push, then a backlash, then a re-push, and so on and so forth. It's getting tiresome. (We're just starting on the backlash cycle again as I write this thanks to some despicable morons reacting badly to Yossi Loloi's photography at fullbeautyproject.com. Some people will just never feel good about themselves unless they're slagging someone else, or preferably an entire culture of someone elses.) I have an attempt at a solution—we'll take all the people who mindlessly parrot the status quo, sit them in a stadium somewhere, and given them all copies of Perfect Piggies! to read and re-read and re-read some more until they get it through their heads that it's okay to not look like Uma Thurman and/or Charlie Hunnam. As anyone who's ever held a squalling child knows, there is something magic about the language Sandra Boynton uses, whether it's her effortless command of rhythm, her books' strong resemblance to song lyrics (in fact, dozens of her books, over the past decade or so, have been made into songs, some of them by very famous folks; I'm still trying to reconcile the Eric Stoltz who was so wonderfully obscene in Killing Zoe turning in a rendition of “Snuggle Puppy”), or her singularly cute artwork, but you put a Boynton book in front of someone and something changes. It works with eighteen-month-olds. Maybe it will work with adults who still exist on the emotional level of eighteen-month-olds as well. *** ½

Boynton strikes again with this board book. Perfect Piggies first appeared as a song on her Rhinoceros Tap album. The book accompanying the tape had a few illustrations. But Boynton has now fully illustrated the song and put it in board book format. And it is a winner! "You have to admit, they are fabulous swine"!! My child's current favorite bedtime book!And these Piggies must be related to Little Pookie, for they all sing "Chattanooga, Piggy, Piggy, Piggledy Dee".
All in all, Sandra Boynton has mastered the ability to pitch a story to both adult reader and child listener. The illustrations are clever, the rhymes are infectious, and the wit cuts across generational lines. The woman is a genius. Of course some of her stuff is better than others--So What? She has managed to turn out a consistent product (clever kids' books) for a goodly number of years. She is on my autobuy list!

2.5/ eh (can levels of ‘eh’ be a rating option, Goodreads?) This one is my least favorite so far, nothing terrible about it just the least engaging and delightful.. but really some of her other ones are great so it’s sort of tough competition?

Jack borrowed this book from the Oxford Public Library as part of our quest to read all the Sandra Boynton books. For the longest time, he wouldn’t let me read it. But tonight, when I went to read it by myself, he took it out of my hand and started flipping through the pages. I was able to read all of them to him eventually, though out of order at first.
Jack liked the pigs and making pig noises with me, but that was about it. I agree that this book feels kind of disjointed and random, even by Sandra Boynton standards.

Another song book that Emmy loves. I have the whole thing memorized at this point so I just dance around with her and sing it without the aid of the book, but the visuals are cute, as always. Though Adam has a problem with the use of a cow as an example of someone with "more wit" than a pig, because, come on.

Sandra Boyton books are some of the favorite that I love reading to my daughter. They are so fun and have such good rhymes in them! I hadn't heard of Perfect Piggies! before seeing it on one of our library trips, so I picked it up. While it is great, it is not one of my favorite Boynton books. My daughter still enjoyed listening and helping me turn the pages, though!

We just adore Sandra Boynton! This book is about singing dancing piggies who are happy to be themselves. There is a song download so you can find out the "correct" way to sing, but I just enjoy coming up with my own little tune and my daughter laughs along while enjoying the charming illustrations.

Very groovy book. Was excited to find out that there is an actual song (you can find it on YouTube). We bought a few Boynton books for Lily at one point and we enjoy them. Her art style is super fun too.

Not sure quite what it is but this one didn't land as well with my toddler. It just didn't hold his interest. Good rhymes good pictures, typical Boynton silliness, just some about it wasn't appealing to him.

I don't know that I've read a Sandra Boynton book that I don't like. And I'm not sure which I like better - piggies or hippos. But this book is pretty perfect.
