About the author

Medea Kalantar, a Reiki Master/Practitioner, a Guinness World Record Holder and a multi-award-winning best selling author of a new children’s book series titled Honeycake.

Inspired to write these books when she learned she would become a grandmother, Kalantar’s stories are based on her own family, whose members come from many ethnic backgrounds. This unique mix is a perfect recipe—just like the spices in a honey cake. That is why she calls her grandchildren her little Honeycakes.

With all the negativity in the world today, Kalantar’s series is a much-needed glimmer of positivity. The Honeycake series teaches valuable life lessons, giving children the tools to overcome obstacles in their everyday lives.

The Honeycake books teach children about diversity, kindness, mindfulness, trust, and gratitude. This series will enlighten, empower, educate, and entertain children for generations to come.

Canadian author Medea Kalantar immigrated from Georgia U.S.S.R. when she was four years old. She is now a proud grandmother of two grandsons.

Medea Kalantar has done it again! This picture book teaches kids a valuable lesson on the meaning of kindness. She provides examples of how thoughtfulness can make us aware of the needs and feelings of others, and then taking action to help them. She demonstrates acts of kindness with small examples such as holding a door open for somebody and doing it with a smile. I love the message that Medea Kalantar relays on how easily you can make other people smile whilst setting a good example for others to follow. It's a great read for children all over the world.

This is my first introduction to Nala, her family, and her adventures, and I’m completely in love. The illustrations are beautiful and the writing will appeal to everyone - especially the story’s message. The heart of this book is about kindness, and how even the smallest acts of it are like spreading magic. Nala - and her young audience - learn that kindness is contagious, and even something as small as a smile can completely brighten the day of someone else, who will pass that kindness on to another. And I love that a bigger act of kindness, such as the donating of clothes and books, was included as well. It’s a gorgeous lesson for kids - and a good reminder for adults, too!

This was all about kindness, smiling, because those are magical powers indeed! You can make someone’s whole day by just being kind. I love that they taught Nala about it in such a sweet and fun way. They didn’t immediately explain how and what but told her to do something and then told her what it meant. Plus, I loved that it was about donations, that Nala was so eager to help out. I know many kids won’t have an easy time to part with their toys or stuff. Even if they don’t use it. I can still remember how I felt when I was a kid and had to get rid of some toys. Not fun! I love that the book ends with Nala telling her parents about her superpowers. Aww!

Once again author Medea Kalantar takes a simple but powerful concept to imprint a powerful life value to children through the character Nala in this third book of her Honeycake series. Yes a smile is powerful and magical. I frequently teach this concept to all my mentees and practice it myself. A smile can automatically engender a smile from even a stranger passing by. It can certainly be the beginning of a lifelong friendship. A smile can calm a tense situation. The best part is that a smile costs nothing! I also enjoyed the illustrations and simple language, which should be very appealing to the age group the book and series is intended for. I am also sure adults reading or co-experiencing these books with children will enjoy this book as I did.

Many years ago, when Archbishop Desmond Tutu visited Trinidad and Tobago (southernmost Caribbean, just 7 miles from Venezuela), he called us a Rainbow Country. Because we are. So, I find Medea Kalantar’s multi-cultural family both normal as well as delightful as she uses her characters for teachable moments.

Nala learns about her Special Magical Powers - ones all humans have; though not all know or choose to exercise them. In one little trip to Rainbow Hall, she also sees how powerful a simple smile, courteous behaviour, and generosity are to the recipient as much as to the giver. The best gifts are indeed free.

People absorb information best through storytelling; repetition (for example, by recounting the experience) helps the message to stick. The book itself is vibrant with colour, illustrations, and bite-sized wording that anyone’s Honeycake can understand and enjoy. This very short read is a perfect conversation starter that parents, grandparents, guardians, and teachers can use to pursue a range of topics with children.

I absolutely love the message that Medea tries to share and brilliantly convey through this magical book;
“Use your Special Magical Powers and spread kindness everywhere you go” And that we all have that power inside of us which is a gift we can all afford to give!
I found this wonderful book so inspiring not only for kids but also for adults as it sheds light on the magic of simple acts of kindness.
I wish this book will be used in different grades of schools and read by all children’s ages to learn how to treat others kindly and courteously.

Honeycake Special Magical Powers is the Book 3 in Honeycake series. This book is written with an aim that parents can teach kindness to their kids. Kindness is a Special Magical Power that all of us have but only few of us use it. The story starts with little Nala packing her outgrown toys and clothes. She will go to Rainbow Hall today with her grandmother and Uncle JD.

On the way to Rainbow Hall, Nala noticed that Uncle JD smiles to everyone on the way. She asked her grandmother "why does Uncle JD passes smile to everyone?". Her grandmother told her the reason and also told little Nala all about kindness.

By being kind, we can change someone's day or life in a position way. This book gives a strong message to spread kindness wherever we go. The story is beautifully penned down. It will be learning with fun for the kids. I love this story.

This book is wonderful it's great for young children who are just starting to learn to read or a little higher level and there are colourfull pics to go with the book I will recommend this book to families who have young children's, or who are working and dealing with children in their community, overall it was a great reading experience with my little boy
