Diamond and Shade are together trying to manage their new relationship when suddenly there is a vampire in their city running wild, killing his victims, and carelessly leaving them everywhere. That is strange enough, but what is even stranger is that he seems to be a Destroyer, and he is connected to Shade.
Diamond is aware of the love/hate history Shade has had with Destroyers, and he's none too happy about being confronted by one of Shade's past conquests.

This is a great follow-up to the first book. Unfortunately it is shorter, but that didn't stop me from loving it.
The underlying issues of unease and mistrust that Diamond had in the first volume return with a vengeance. An ex-lover of Sebastian's turns up and strengthens those. The crisis threatens to destroy their relationship.
Not a book I was able to put down. If you liked the first one, you will love this one. I think it's better because it focuses more on the relationship as it deepens. The external threat is more of a catalyst to what happens between Diamond and Sebastian less of a plot element in its own right. Loved it!

Diamond and Sebastian are living happily ever after, killing rogue vamps and smexin‘ it up. Suddenly there is someone killing at random it seems. Oh wait, it’s Sebastian’s ex. It was another slayer he had an affair with back a couple of hundred years that turned into a vampire without his knowledge. The guy stole Sebastian’s blood and now wants him back and plans to kill Diamond to get him. After Diamond very nearly does die, Sebastian agrees to stay with David as long as he promises never to hurt Diamond. Diamond thinks he killed Sebastian due to mind tricks of David and when he finds out he’s alive, even though he’s told Sebastian is with David and never wants to see him, he refuses and goes back to have it out with David and win back his man, um vamp. For some reason I really had trouble getting into this one. Took me forever to read 60 pages. Diamond was raised to have no feelings at all but he and Sebastian were sending me into a sugar coma sometimes they were so freaking gushy. Also they joke about Diamond not really understanding the nuances of English being Hungarian but I thought he talked pretty normally. Anyway, they seem to be HEA now for sure.

Ah, vampire love, part deux.
Things didn't improve in this second installment. The characters and their relationships didn't seem much more developed from the first book. Yes, Diamond and Sebastian have declared their love, they're living together now and we learned a little more back-story, but the writing never really delivered a compelling 'couple' -- they come off as two-dimensional cartoon characters. And there's nothing worse than two-dimensional sex. This felt sketchy and 'phoned-in' and maybe I'm just ready to put vampire books aside for a good long while; certainly this was no enticement to continue.

4 1/2 stars - I think I liked this one even better than the first even though it was quite short.
It dealt more with the relationship between Diamond and Shade, the issues they were still dealing with concerning Diamond’s lack of emotional history. The plot was good - interesting - and some things actually shocked me, as well as made me tear up. The death of one of the background characters was definitely a *gasp* and when Diamond was sent back to Hungary my heart just ached.
Great sequel by DJ and I’m wondering if we’ll ever hear anything more from Diamond and Shade. *hopes*

I like this better than the first book because it deals more with the relationship of Shade and Diamond. I know that Diamond has issues of Shade being a vampire -- and that is what I think isn't explored enough in the first book. So yeah, I liked this one better. PLUS, I still love the dialogs .... D.J. Just as mint as the first and looking forward to the next one to this. Hopefully there is one.

I know that I am in the minority but I did not like this one as much as the first book.
