In this collection of speeches and papers, Judge Learned Hand offers some of his most provocative and insightful observations on the law and liberty. His speech, from whence the title of the books comes, delivered on I Am an American Day in May, 1944, is one of the best defenses for liberty I've read in a long time. Excellent stuff.
