If you're interested in music, whether as an aspiring musician or as someone who simply appreciates Western music and wants to go behind the scenes and learn how it is constructed, this book is a valuable introduction to the subject. I do not have a keyboard, but one is printed in the book, which is helpful for understanding explanations based on the white and black keys. The DVD also greatly augments the explanations. I'll admit, at a certain point we got beyond what I can currently understand. But that was OK: I learned what I needed to from this primer, and can return to it when I'm ready to learn more.
