Page after page, beautifully illustrated snowflakes fall from the sky, children skate, and snowmen dance--while poetry of hope pleads for the promise of a cure.
This lovely picture book captures life-in-the-moment through the brevity and beauty of haiku and individual illustrated images. The author started the project to fund cancer research. Her message is succinctly translated using the beauty and transiency of snowflakes. Robert's Snowflakes will draw adults into children's books and draw children into a winter wonderland while impressing on them a deeper message—life is precious.
This amazing picture takes the readers through a journey of winter and Christmas, and tells you their own story through their very own snowflake art. The poetry in the book gives the reader an even more sense of how winter is one of the most delightful seasons on the year. It will make you smile from ear to ear as you turn every page, and look at the incredible artwork of those pictures of whom this book represents.
I love snowflakes and children’s lit and some how have missed this book. Fortunately my interest in learning more about haiku led me to it. I’ll be purchasing this for my own library.
Book #9 in our “1,000 Books Before Kindergarten” challenge
This will be a very quick review, as this book was a simple-quick read for Mommy and me. The simplicity shouldn’t subtract from the fact that we enjoyed it very much.
It was a book filled with beautiful winter artwork and poetry (in the form of haikus) from various children’s book authors and illustrators. This collection of creativity is a pure feast for the eyes, and a great addition to our shelves.
I think we will revisit this one every season just so we can marvel at the gorgeous illustrations. Highly recommend for those who appreciate good artwork by talented creators. It will put you and yours in the holiday spirit, for sure!!
Snowflakes created by various authors and illustrators for inspiration against cancer. Uniquely colorful and grand, they serve as a reminder that life is fragile, fleeting, and the power of faith and medicine are true.
