These characters remain intriging from volume to volume. My favorite part from this book is how much Alice can't resist Peter when he's in rabbit form - he's just too cute! :) and I agree, I don't think I would be able to resist picking him up and cuddling him, either.

Vivaldi, the Queen of Hearts, is a really interesting character, and I'm happy we're hearing more of her sad backstory. Despite her power, her isolation is really rather tragic, and I'm happy she can share at least part of her child-like personality with Alice. Her allusions to "the game" are intriging as well - it's still unclear what Alice's part in the game is.

Other curious things - is Ace good or bad? Or can we even define what "good" and "bad" are in Wonderland? And why does Blood want Alice to come live with him so badly when he claims not to love her? Why is Ace so shocked that Blood came for Alice? And how is it possible that Blood and Julius have never met? More to discover in the next volumes!

Review for complete series

I think there are a couple of important things to keep in mind before reading this manga that I think a lot of reviewers here are unaware of. First and foremost would be the fact that this is an adaptation of an otome game [in short, a game where the player unlocks romantic storylines with the various characters available]. As such, it's almost inevitable that this has some harem-like traits and given that it's an adaptation and not the source material, some story threads are lost in translation and likely don't deliver as well as the original does. Nevertheless, as someone who doesn't like harem stories, I've loved the Alice in the Country of [...] manga series and think that they have done a pretty good job adapting it without making it too heavy on the harem side and adding a nice little twist on the various love interest options.

Needless to say, this whole setup is based on Alice in Wonderland. In this adaptation, an older Alice is brought to wonderland where all the characters she encounters are human representations of the various characters and creatures from the original novel. This wonderland is set up as a kind of game where the different territories fight each other, including to the death. Death seems to hold a different concept in this world and characters seem to take it for granted. Alice on the other hand is appalled by how carelessly others get into fights and hurt each other. Alice is treated differently though - she's a stranger to this world and it makes her different and the rules of the game apply differently to her.

As a work around for how the game version offers all the characters as potential love interests, I quite like how the manga version handles it. It puts reason in place why characters are drawn to Alice and like her. I especially appreciate how like doesn't mean in a romantic way - she forms friendships and gets along with most of the characters and only few of them are presented in a way that could be romantic. There is also a reason why characters are drawn to Alice which the plot vaguely explains [more on that later].

For the sake of letting this six-volume series stand on its own, the plot does pick one character as the central love interest who Alice more or less ends up with (I shan't spoil who it is!). Homever, similarly to how the game works, there are dozens of spin-off manga series that uses different characters as a love interest. These other works start with the assumption that you already know the beginning of this story. The way it works, you could read about the first two volumes of this main series and then jump to whichever series follows a character you would like Alice to end up with. I thought that's a pretty neat way to give similar options to what the game offers and it gives you many variants of how things could play out, especially considering that this series has many likeable characters.

For better or for worse, all the different instalments are done by different artists. I absolutely adore the art used in this main series though. The others are a mixed bag, some are nicer, some ore not quite so nice. But besides the beautiful art and the somewhat unusual but interesting set up of having different volumes following different plots, I appreciate the depth of this plot which might at first glance go unnoticed. Alice adores her older sister but there are clear signs of her also having inferiority complexes toward her. The story alludes to things having happened in the real world that have led Alice to come to Wonderland instead. I also appreciate how self reflecting Alice is, for examples she questions how shallow she must have been to wish herself into a world where everyone likes her. There are also some lovely friendships such as with the Queen of Hearts.

On the downside, I thought this main series' love interest wasn't handled overly well as it was quite rushed. But the worst thing is that a few essential tidbits from the game didn't make it into this adaptation, it leaves the reader with several questions and most importantly doesn't conclude some of the deeper underlying themes. When I first read this series years ago, I had to do some online research to actually understand the ending. Once you have that missing information it makes a whole lot more sense. It doesn't take away from my enjoyment of this franchise but I do think it would have been much better had this information been included to the books.

I don't think this series is for everyone but I personally really enjoy it and think it's from a technical perspective really well done with how it branches out in different storylines. If you are thinking of trying this series, you'll definitely want to read this original storyline first and then continue with the series of your favourite characters. Also a fair warning that this main series has a bonus chapter (I believe in volume 4) which at first seems a continuation of the plot but is actually just a bonus story that alludes to the Joker spin off. It starts and ends a bit out of the blue and I think the chapter cover isn't obvious enough that it isn't part of the main plot. I recall during my first read of this series I was very confused why the ending of volume four didn't match the beginning of volume 5.

This was another great Alice in the Country of Hearts adventure! It's full of intrigue and buildup. Like why is the Nightmare working with Peter? What's going on with Hatter and Vivaldi? What can Julius really do? And why the heck does everyone love outsiders? I wanna know!

There are so many unanswered questions in this series but the way QuinRose weaves the story keeps it interesting, compelling and fun. She drops little informative tidbits here and there to keep us readers happy and engaged. It works like a charm!

I still do NOT trust the Hatter, the Nightmare, or Peter. There are some things that get left out in the open that make me very suspicious of them all. And then there is the matter of what Alice is even doing in this world in the first place. It's very strange! I actually have to wonder if perhaps she is in some kind of coma and the characters are trying to get her to stay with them.

For what reason exactly I am not sure but something is terribly fishy! There's this ominous undercurrent that seems to pervade the whole story. The only people I trust at the moment are Julius and Elliot. The rest are on my 'Uh-oh!' radar!

Due to what happens in this comic I think the 4th manga is going to be quite explosive and chock full of answers. I can't wait to read it! Poor Alice is in danger and doesn't even know it. It'll be a race to see if she can wake before anything bad happens. It's going to be so good!

Alice in the County of Hearts (heart no kuni no alice) is a shoujo Alice in Wonderland story. Simple and straight to the point. No real fluff. Basis of the plot: everyone is in love with Alice and she is convinced she's in a dream. I read the whole series in a day online so I'm unable to differentiate between each volume specifically.

I give this book 4 stars I can’t wait to pick up the next book in the series to see if all the characters have one big shoot out fight scene over Alice. I also feel like Alice will not leave the clock tower to go stay at blood’s mansion.

I’m intrigued because I’m curious as to what they’re setting up with Alice’s sister. However, it’s a bit annoying that the second I begin to like one of the male characters, they either become abusive, predatory, or extremely obsessive and stalker-like.

Alice is becoming so involved with the inhabitants of Wonderland, that one has to begin to wonder - does she truly wish to leave? In fact, I cannot remember the last time she spoke of doing so. Hmmmm?

Alice returns to the Clock Tower, to Julius' surprise. She makes him some more coffee. He grades her with 81 points - she is getting better! She lets him know that rather than feeling frightened of him for what he does, she finds his work commendable, thinks of him as a saver of people. When Nightmare informs Peter of how well Alice is beginning to fit in, he begins to hope that she will decide to stay, and to be with him, no longer content simply to be near her. That could be a problem, as Alice finds him to be annoying and perverted. Peter contends that Alice must already love him, since that is how she was able to even get into the game. Nightmare hints at something that Alice is unaware of, that should she learn it might just drive her farther away. Such a conundrum!

When Peter runs into Alice, despite his good intentions to the contrary, he hugs her and tells her he loves her! In order to ease her apprehensions towards him, he takes his rabbit form, which she was totally unaware was him! As a fuzzy bunny, she finds him irresistible, but how long will he be content with being a rabbit for her? Julius tells her to take a break, and as she scans his library, which is filled with clockmaking books, her thoughts turn to her sister, wondering what she is doing, how she is faring. Her chest begins to hurt inexplicably. Nightmare steps in to ease the pain and steer her back into the dream - and she forgets what she was thinking about, telling Julius that she was thinking of Blood. She goes to Hatter Castle, ostensibly to peruse Blood's books, and the gatekeepers, Dee and Dum, talk her into going to their room to play with them, where they show her their things - all rather warlike and bloody in nature. In fact, they are on the verge of a violent act toward Alice when Elliott and Blood show up, and Alice is mesmerized by Blood all over again. He takes her to his room, and lets her look through his books while he does some paperwork.

Alice finds herself unable to stop looking at Blood, of course he comments on it. In fact, he decides to join her on the couch, questioning her about his resemblance to her lost love, with unexpected results. She ends up throwing a book at him and leaving his room, crying. Elliott sees her as she goes by, and then questions Blood as to his motives for whatever it is he is doing. Upon her return to the Tower, Peter rushes in - she must come immediately to the Palace, the Queen demands it, and if she doesn't, the results will be bad for him! While she is gone, Blood pays a visit to the clockmaker - informing him that he wishes Alice to move in with him!

This one only get three stars because at times I wanted to smack Alice in this volume. Mostly regarding Peter White and Blood Dupre, but also her general ignorance even though she has been in wonderland for quite some time. The biggest thing I want is growth from characters and I see very little growth from Alice which is rather aggravating. The world is evolving and we are learning more and more about the other characters, but Alice seems to be static.

Out of all the characters in this manga Julius and Boris have to be my favorite and my picks for who Alice should end up with. Julius more than Boris because he has never forced Alice to do something that she didn't want to. This volume is the first time we have ever seen him draw a weapon and it was when Alice was gone and Blood was shooting at him. Julius also says that it is Alice's choice who she lives with, making him the only character who cares about what Alice wants. I know that 'healthy' relationships are thrown aside in the fantasy realm of mangas a lot of the times, but if there is anyone Alice should date it would be Julius. I like Boris for the same reason, sure he made Alice hold a gun, but he is the only one that has tried to cheer her up and take care of her. Unlike Blood who was choking her at one point and all she did was throw a book at him! Ugh, the more I read this manga the more Blood annoys me.

While we are talking about characters I want to talk about how much I love Ace's character, not as a romantic interest, but because he is so dark and twisted. There is no 'villain' in this manga, but Ace is the character with the unknown motives that give any story suspense. At the end of this volume he massacres facelesses right in front of Alice and leaves her surrounded by the dead bodies, how twisted is that? Yet, there is also something I like about him, it might be that out of all the characters he actually explains things to Alice, such as them having clocks for hearts. He might be dark and twisted, but he is also one of the more honest characters.

Overall a fun read and I am going to continue, but some things make me want to shake Alice like a rag doll.

This series follows a girl named, you guessed it, Alice. This is an adaptation of Alice in Wonderland, but this Alice isn't as much of a doormat like the orginal tale. She's much more practical and cynical. On top of that, she never even followed the "White Rabbit" into Wonderland in the first place, she was kidnapped. This Wonderland is filled with mostly bishie characters that have to play the roles of this world's classic inhabitants: The White Rabbit, the Hatter, the Queen of Hearts, the March Hare, the Doormouse, the Cheshire Cat, and more. Alice is dragged into a game where people can pull guns out of thin air and life isn't taken as seriously. On top of all that, all the "placeholders" are supposed to fall in love with any person from outside. Just what is going to happen in this girly and slightly violent game?

Personally, I find this series rather amusing. This Alice certainly is different from some of her previous incarnations. Also enjoyed the characters' roles in Wonderland. The Hatters are a mafia family, there is of course the Castle of Hearts, and then there is Gowland's amusement park. These three regions are all feuding, with the clock tower as the only neutral place. Honestly, I never expected Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum to be mafia. The most interesting part probably is how death works in this different world. Tick-tock, Tick-tock...

Based off a game by Quin-Rose.

Hmmm...I don't really have much to say about this one. I liked it, but not as much as I loved the other two. Maybe it's just me, but I felt like the drawings looked a bit different in this volume. It wasn't bad and not a radical change, but to me it seemed off to me.

I am back to being mixed about Peter. He's an annoying creeper, but ohmigod he was adorable in this one. I swear, he was the cutest rabbit I've ever seen. So cutee!!! I wanted to steal him from the pages of the manga. He was all fuzzy and had a little suit on. It was hilarious how Alice was obsessed with Peter in rabbit form. I don't blame her though because the cute bunny-ness kinda makes up for his stalker status. As for Blood, WTF?! I like him, but dude's bipolar or something. He talks about how much he likes Alice as he was strangling her (what a freak!). Not much really happened in this one and I kinda wished there was more Elliot because he is my favorite...

This is Hatter's explanation to why everyone in Wonderland is attracted to Alice (mostly the guys since there is only one female I've seen besides Alice, and that is Vivaldi aka The Queen of Hearts):

"Outsiders are loved by the people in this world. And not because they're rare. They're only able to come to this world if they have the elements that will make us fall in love. That's what they say anyway. If it's true, it's a matter of course that we're both (he and Julius) attracted to her.

So what will happens if she continues to stay in Wonderland? It's already going crazy now, when Hatter wants to take Alice away from Julius's mansion.

PS. Peter White in animal form is so fluffy and cute that I couldn't resist to draw him! And even though there are so many guys in this manga, I've been drawn to Ace, the knight of Heart for some reason. So the next one to draw: Ace xD

I myself haven't read many manga's in my time, but compared to Fruit Basket(which itself is also a wonderful series,) the artwork shines. I love the characters and how their emotions changed from the beginning. I'm glad that the author is going more into the character of Boris. The Cheshire Cat was always a beloved character(no matter how creepy he looks in the Disney movies.) We can tell that the author is also unfolding the character of the Clock-maker as well, which I believe is supposed to be Time, a character in Lewis Carroll's original that was said to have been in an argument with the Mad Hatter. Julius himself was a mystery and that concept really dragged me on. The book was simply outstanding and I hope you will find it that way as well.

CONTAINS SPOILERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I figured Blood was the Queens younger brother, if they weren't lovers that was the only other thing they could be.

I don't see why Alice likes Blood. He like choked her and tried to shoot her... Just a little to agressive for me lol. I personally like Boris and Peter the best, Also Elliot is pretty awesome too.

I think Alice's sister is dead. Which would be really sad, but they keep trying to tell her something about the sister. So that would make sense. I can't figure out what they don't want Alice to "remember" and why she would love Peter the most.

I was glad Blood brought Alice back, even if he is bipolar. Drives me crazy. Boris is totally awesome though. Just love th Cheshire cat!!

The story itself captivates more then the sum of the parts. While some of the characters continue to interest me (Alice not really being one of them), I am definitely intrigued enough in the story to want to see how it unfolds. What is Blood Dupre's relationship to the Queen? [I suspect they might be brother and sister:]. What is Nightmare's role in this world/game? Why does the White Hare think that Alice has to fall in love with him, like it has been predestined? I have many more questions and am looking forward to finding some answers in coming volumes...
