Alinta Lawrence, helping her wife to establish a station in her native outback, learning white ways, is finding it a challenge for the primitive woman. Having a child to raise with her wife, there is so much to learn, about the white woman’s world. She’s amazed and sometimes overwhelmed by the things these white people seem to need in their lives, will she be able to cope with it all?
My issue with that particular storyline, made it feel a bit too convenient? for lack of a better word. Also the characters reactions and then the not really talking about what happened, really irritated me.
You don't utilize rape, just to get a baby into the storyline, because it suits you. Just a bit WTF inducing.
By far my most favourite in this series and I'm not even done reading it. I still have three to go!
Meinel definitely did her homework when it came to the Outback. I felt like I was reading parts of a history book in school during the scenes when Mel and her crew were building this and building that. A lot of fine detail about the environment, the people, their way of life, the sheep, the horses went into this amazing story. I thoroughly enjoyed reading all the backbreaking but rewarding work these people put in to the land and their home. I fell in love all over again with Mel and Anita, and of course, I appreciated the more intimate scenes between wife and wife. I like how Mel taught Anita how to make love just how she taught Anita everything else. Always tenderly, patiently and with an astronomical amount of love. I also loved that Mel was the "husband" instead of the wife. I understand it was more for her safety, but husband suited Mel more and naturally than the "wife" role.
Mel and Anita have become a favourite couple of mine in lesbian fiction. I was shocked and devastated when Anita was attacked for a second time, and loved how Mel took care of her afterward. I hate what happened to her, but I love that the result of that vicious attack will be loved just as much as the first one.
I look forward to more of Mel and Anita in the next book, and I most certainly look forward to finding out Mel's response to the surprise guest.
We see that Alinta is learning more about the white mans life and understand the things Mel wants. She is starting to read and write. The paddock is coming along and the sheep are multiple. Finding new land to build on making the home stead Mel wanted. Happy with new animals that have arrived and the house is complete with running water and bathrooms in the house. We see that Carmen and Fiona are doing ok when they come to visit but an unexpected guess comes to see them. Can wait to read the next book
I loved Outback Native. Book 4 in A Woman Down Under Series. If you’ve been wondering how to build a sheep station in the Outback, this is the book for you.
