I really enjoyed this memoir by Billy Stanley. I found it very sensitively written with much love - but also brutely honest about Elvis Presley at the end of his life. The extraorninary fame machine and the pressures it places upon those unlucky enough to be within it. Very sad in places but in others funny and heartwarming.

I know a lot of fans don't like this book because it shows the warts and all of The King - but i believe this is necessary for us to really understand is demise. He could be selfish - he was human, but he was also compassionate towards his fellow human beings.

I love it

Billy Stanley obviously loved Elvis so this book is not one of those that tears Elvis apart, although he does mention the heavy drug use and wild parties. The last few pages of the book brought me to tears as Billy visited Graceland for the first time in several years. You can feel his anguish at having lost Elvis and feel the flood of memories.

You can see how much Billy Stanley loved his stepbrother as his shares his memoirs of life on the road and his cherished moments with the king this book is very respectful to the memory of Elvis and it's one of the best books written about Elvis

I wasn't an elvis fan to start with and I'm still not.
I found the book repetitive, very actually.

I appreciate Billy's transparency in sharing his love of his brother and the pain of his loss. I never saw Elvis perform live and I did not listen to his music very much even though I grew up in Memphis. I appreciate him more now than in the past. I pray Billy has made peace with himself and the past and that his best years are ahead of him. I liked the book though painful to read of greatness crumbling. I prefer to remember Elvis in his prime.
