Children of Yrathea
As a Sylvan Tongue, Teiwa holds the ability to speak to trees. Before, this just made trees her companions. Now, it means she must save the world.
When the Festival of Life is interrupted by tragedy, Teiwa finds the ancient legends of forbidden magic to be real and the Mother Tree, Yrathea, to be dying. If combined with a magical artifact, her abilities can save her, but only if she can find the way to the Sacred City.

This story has such a hypnotic style that I didn’t want to put the story down. The world this author created is fascinating and filled with a thousand little details.
The story is about Tiewa. The only child of the village chief she’s always been considered a bit of a freak, due to her ability to speak to plants. During the Festival of Life she has a vision and her adventure soon begins.
As much as I loved this story I do wish it had been longer and bit more fleshed out. The trip was a bit too smooth. They were on a boat and had an easy trip. I would have enjoyed a storm, a sea monster, maybe something with the mermaids.
Overall do not sleep on this book. This author is going to go far and I cannot wait to see what comes next!

If you like quick reads with a fast paced plot, “Children of Yrathea” is your type of book. There are many fantasy elements in this book from dragons to elementals to wraiths. I wished the world would have been fleshed out better. I love world building and details so I would have liked more. What are all the magical beings and how do they belong in the world together? I also wish there was more of a description of the magic and different elementals. Since this is the first in the series, there is obviously unanswered questions and hints of the characters pasts that will hopefully be answered. Overall, it was an interesting and easy read.

The premise and ideas were really cool but the delivery was so cumbersome and unnatural I couldn't make it through. I kept thinking, "this is how AI would write." I was initially determined to just ride it out due to its short length, but it was such a continuous stumbling point, I couldn't make it.

I really enjoyed this book. It’s short but has a lot in it. I wish there was just a little more world building, but the author does a great job. The humor is great and I found myself openly chuckling at a few parts.

Very YA despite characters being around 20. Cool world and story but it felt a bit stilted and too fast in places

io non so se è perché, essendo in inglese, io non abbia capito delle cose, ma proprio non mi è piaciuto.
è un libro breve (sacrosanto) ma succedono troppe cose secondo me spiegate male, senza contare che alcune scene vengono descritte con fin troppi dettagli inutili mentre altre si risolvono in tre righe.
in più non ho apprezzato neanche un personaggio:
è realistico che Teiwa non si senta pronta per la missione che le è stata affidata, però nei suoi pensieri continua a pensare che sia la persona sbagliata, che non sia adatta eccetera. Inoltre trovo un po' "esagerato" che TUTTE le sue insicurezze e i suoi cambiamenti siano dovuti alla ex relazione. E con che coraggio gli altri due la "rimproverano" per essere cambiata? Le persone crescendo cambiano, inoltre essendosene andati entrambi non mi sembrano nella posizione per poter direi qualcosa, non ne hanno proprio il diritto.
La migliore amica (ho già dimenticato tutti i nomi) insopportabile. Rivede Teiwa dopo anni e fa la schifata quando la abbraccia, però ricordiamo che erano migliori amiche, e se non si fossero incontrate per caso chissà se sarebbe andata a trovarla. Poi, non si vedono da anni ma accetta subito di andare con lei in missione. Un palo in culo per tutto il tempo, non fa che lamentarsi e pretendere risposte.
L'altro tizio boh, anche lui che sparisce nel nulla e quando si rincontrano spera che tutto torni come prima. Non ti costava nulla lasciare un biglietto, o mandarne uno successivamente per rassicure le persone che tenevano a te.
Vabbè direi che le 2 stelle siano abbastanza autoesplicative.
