In a small corrupt settlement in the Wild West, the tumbleweeds are the only prospect of authenticity until a retired bronc buster named Alonzo Bill rides into town. A lifelong cynic of the supernatural, he takes advantage of others' fears of the unknown. He finds it easier and more profitable to make a living as a con artist rather than a cowboy. Feeding into the desperation and naivety of the town's residents, he swindles anyone fearing the paranormal haunts them. The luxury of his new career filled with fame, riches, and little effort seems perfect until he meets his match when called to assist a preacher with a unique situation. Confounded by what he witnesses leads him to question all of his prior convictions and calls him to carry out purging the earth of unfathomable evils. Find out what happens when a coming to Jesus moment inspires a con to become the ultimate judge, jury, and executioner of sinister forces. "Burying bodies ain't always easy when you're a retired cowboy."
Brigitte, "Gitte," Tamar was born in a small rural Oregon town. Growing up, she was enthralled by scary tales featuring poetic tones and consistently gravitated towards writing darkened narratives. In the different storylines, Brigitte explores the harsh realities of social issues faced by today's generations. This includes the dark outcomes brought on by peer pressure, addiction, homelessness, mental illness, childhood trauma, and abuse. She feels it is essential to share narratives that refrain from sugarcoating the topics society tends to shy away from.
Before I give my review I want to say I have enjoyed a couple of books by this author thought they were really good! However I thought this book could’ve been set up way better. Preacher Boone‘s daughter is possessed and they hire this cowboy who in my opinion is an idiot to help her. He’s supposed to be the best in the west but from the beginning he makes grave mistakes that endanger all of them. Oh yes and did I mention he’s a phony! What me just say I did finish the book and it wasn’t hard to follow or understand I just think it could’ve been set up better. I love horror stories and have enjoyed song from this author but just not this one. I received this book from Book Sirens for free but I am leaving this review voluntarily please forgive any mistakes as I am blind and dictate my review but all opinions are definitely my own.
Being a first-time reader of this author, this novel was a fairly decent read. The character introductions were just the right mix of current events and backstory, to keep the readers' attention. The plot lines moved at a pretty good pace and were easy to follow. With just a touch of Jim Butcher's "Harry Dresden" character mixed with Stephen King's "The Gunfighter" character, this author creatively made one enjoyable character out of the Cowboy. I look forward to reading more from this author.

Alonzo comes full circle and discovers the origin of his scar, who his father is, and how his birth mother died. He's a character, but I think he uses his sarcasm as a crutch to stop him from feeling too much.
For me, the story dragged a bit in places, but it was definitely a different take on the usual Wild West stories. Overall, it was an enjoyable read.
I received a free Advance Reader Copy of Ten-Cent Man through BookSirens and have chosen to leave a review.
This is probably meant to be funny, but it is driving me buggy.
I'm sorry, I can't do it.
Note: I did not read much of this book. I know there is a school of thought saying you shouldn't rate books you don't read all the way through, but what better definition of a one-star book is there than one you didn't finish??
Just because I didn't like it doesn't mean you won't love it.
I thank BookSirens and the author for giving me a copy of this book to try.
The story is interesting, but some of the language is jarring. I am not an historian but it would surprise me if “get a wiggle on” was common language in that era. Also the frank impossibility of some parts, like a woman surviving for a long period with just a sponge of water, are off putting. The story is disjointed with multiple flashbacks. I was curious enough to read the whole book, but I wouldn’t read another.
This was a wild ride. Even though it was a short read the characters and world building were very well done. The time jumps were a little much at times, but also felt in tune with the narrator’s personality.I would definitely read more from Gitte Tamar.

I really enjoy the idea of western horror, and this book was one of the best I read. I enjoyed the plot of the book and going through this world. The characters were great and I had a good time reading this.

The author’s blurb made this book sound a lot more interesting than it was. I kept thinking the little looks into the past would lead to something current and worthwhile, but it never did. I recommend you give this one a pass.
This is written like it was supposed to be a movie or something. That being said, I'm not so sure it would make sense as a movie either. This could have been 2 different books as separate stories and I would have enjoyed it much more.
The story of a con man who gets tripped up in the occult world. Not my cup of tea, although I can see where it could attract a certain audience. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I enjoyed the general plot of Ten-cent Man. The writing was absolutely beautiful. Initially it felt rather impersonal, but around the 40% mark I was really invested in Alonzo’s character. I do wish this book was a little longer. The pace at the beginning of the book didn’t quite match the end, but I definitely enjoyed it. I’ll be reading more from Gitte Tamar in the future
Thanks to BookSirens for providing a copy of this book for me to read.
