Maggie Shayne's story was cute, but mostly because it had a lot of dogs. I liked the characters, but I just don't like the typical romance formula where they've had two conversations and mind blowing sex and suddenly two people who were adamently opposed to relationships are deeply in love.

Meljean Brook's story was more of a novella. It felt very complete and unrushed (even though they too, of course, fell in love almost instantly). It seemed like a good intro to her Guardian series. If I liked
Three of the stories in this book were surprisingly good, with only one being a real disappointment.

Animal Magnetism, by Maggie Shayne, was a great, easy-to-read story about a female veterinarian who has the advantage of being able to talk to her patients, and who gets drawn into a murder-rape investigation when the pet of one of the victims gives her critical information about the attacker. I'd never read anything of Ms Shayne's before, but after reading this one, I'll be keeping an eye out for

A paranormal anthology by 4 romance authors. Trade paperback. The stories are:
1) Animal Magnetism by Maggie Shayne - a vet with a special talent for communicating with animals (Dr Macy McNamara) meets police officer Jay Harris when he comes into her examination room with a bleeding dog. The dog was shot while trying to protect her owner from a rapist and is the only witness who can identify him. Now Macy, who has spent most of her life hiding her talent and being cold towards people, must convin
November 8th: Finished the story written by Meljean Brook. I liked it. Selah is an interesting woman and Lucas wasn't bad either. I like his family name.. *cough* because of Karl Marsen *cough* There is a demon who's sacrificing vampires to open a gate to hell. Those vampires belong to Lucas community. His consort's one of the victims, too. It was a comfortable read. Where some of Meljean Brooks' books are angsty, this was .. easy-going. Dumb adjective.. Whatever, 3+ stars.

I finally finished this book. Most of the stories were good, but I just didn't connect with the one by Brook. For a only 100 page story, I keep putting it down and not wanting to pick it back up.

Animal Magnetism by Maggie Shayne
I liked this story of the vet who could read animal thoughts and her struggle to do the right thing but at the same time protect herself.

Paradise by MelJean Brook
I just didn't connect with this one. Neither the characters or the story interested me. A vampire needs the h

This is just a review for Alyssa Day'S Wild Hearts story.

Awesome short story. She definitely could have made this into a full book. Not sure why she didn't. At any rate, I think this series has great potential. Day does a great job of making her characters come alive and really connects their story with the reader. This story is about Bastien finding his mate and includes the plot about the Atlanteans joining forces with shapeshifters who are sympathetic to the human cause. Very good. Off to the
3 out of 4 stories I enjoyed. Short and sweet, you cant go wrong with Maggie Shayne... Love all her work. Meljean Brook was great, loved learning about Selah and Lucas. Alyssa Day and her Poseidon Warriors are awesome! I love Marjorie M. Liu but I really struggled with her short story. Overall nice add to the other series I have.

I read Alyssa Day's story for the second time as I refresh my memory on the Warriors of Poseidon series. Another great read and, so far, awesome series.

Very good story,(Only rating Paradise right now) I so love Selah. I love how there is no guilt too taboo for Meljean Brook to tackle. Though this is only novella length, Lucas & Selah's love packs quite a punch.

Animal Magnetism – Maggie Shayne
Listen to the secrets of a beautiful animal whisperer who’s drawn intimately closer to danger, and t the most suspect of all male animals: man...

I liked this story very much. As known in Anthologies, the stories are too short for full indepth charactarization but Maggie Shayne did a good job nonetheless. The story is about Macy MacNamara, a vet who can “talk” to animals, and Jay Harris, a hot detective who brings a do

An anthology of four short stories on a paranormal romantic theme.

"Paradise" (Guardians, 1.5)
"Hunter Kiss" (Hunter Kiss, 0.5)
"Wild Hearts in Atlantis" (Warriors of Poseidon, 1.5)

The Stories
Maggie Shayne's "Animal Magnetism" was cute. A veterinarian, Dr. Macy McNamara, can sense everything an animal can and helps Detective Jay Harris find a rapist.

Meljean Brook's "Paradise" finds Lucas Marsden, a former cop-lawyer-theatre owner/nosferatu, struggling to recover from the murder of his consor

As this is an anthology I will tell something about every story.

Animal Magnetism by Maggie Shayne
I really liked this story. It's about an animal doctor who can 'talk' with animals. She's not too fond of humans though, but she might have to change her views when she gets dragged into a series of violent crimes because of her gift.
The action storyline and the romance storyline melt well together and I liked both Macy, the lead character and Jay, her love interest. I might pick up other books by t

So I bought this book because I am a huge fan of Meljean Brook and her Guardians series.

I'm not a big fan of anthologies in general simply because I like a good, long story you can get your teeth into and because I really don't think the short story lends itself to the romance format. It's just not long enough to get invested into characters.

But as this short from Meljean takes place in her Guardians world with characters we know and love, it doesn't feel like a short, more like a continuation o

I recently bought this novella in a eBook format cause a friend of mine loaned me the two novels: ‘The Iron Hunt’ and ‘Darkness Calls’ and she told me that this novella was the prequel to the whole story so it made sense for me to buy and read it. At first, the novella was really confusing. Marjorie M. Liu’s writing style is like no other I have encountered before, which is sometimes bad and sometimes good. It could get really confusing for an international reader like myself, because there are ...more

She has to learn to trust the detective investigating the cases enough to let him into her life and her heart before it is all too late.

Wild Thing was predictable, lighthearted, and sweet (but not stand out) - pretty much what you expect from Maggie Shayne.

Hunter Kiss was great. Liu is so good at building sexual tension that I was nearly crawling the walls! And, when she finally did get to the sex, she did it beautifully and tastefully. I nearly screamed aloud when this story ended because I wanted - needed - more.

Paradise and Wild Hearts in Atlantis were awful. It was painfully obvious that both were parts of a series - in a WT
I finished reading Hunter Kiss by Marjorie Liu. This is her prequel to the Hunter Kiss series that is currently out. It's a fun story about a demon hunter, who watched her mother get shot to death after her little demons abandoned her for her daughter. The story about the 5 little demons that turn into tats on her body, is truly different from anything I've read. This story shows how Maxine Kiss meets Grant, and how their chemistry came about. 3.5 stars

I also finished Alyssa Day's tale about Atl

HUNTER KISS: 6 Jun 2007 - 7 Jun 2007 (8/10)
Hunter Kiss - Marjorie M. Liu (8/10)
Short story in "Wild Thing" anthology. I set out not wanting to like this - mostly because I can't afford to have another autobuy series. The budget just won't take it. The blurb - woman with living tattoos fights demons - and the fact it was writing present tense, which I don't really like, had me thinking I was probably safe. Wrong, wrong, wrong. Once again, Liu shows she can create a quite dark world and portray it

"Animal Magnetism"--cute story with animals on one level and an awful story on the other level with a horrible rapist, a dirty, abusive cop, and a dog who gets shot. Weird.

"Paradise"--so, not a fan of this story. Hell, not a fan of the writing at all. It's difficult to know who says what...the feelings are often so vague that you are wondering why characters did what they did. I would skip this series...and I shall.

"Hunter Kiss"--GREAT STORY! This is why I read the book, because I wanted to begi

OK, this anthology was GREAT! Total Paranormal Romance shorts, well written and a pleasure to read. There's the standard PR sex in these, on the detailed side.

Animal Magnetism by Maggie Shayne (stand-alone novella) - Sweet sweet story; brings a smile to your face!

Paradise by Meljean Brook (1.5 in The Guardians series) - Nosferatu Vamps and Guardian Angels. If you're into this series this one is about Lucas and Selah. Another sweet story.

Animal Magnetism by Maggie Shayne -
This story was really sweet. The sexual interaction between the hero/heroine seemed abrupt at first, but then it settled in ok, and ended up being a cute story.

Paradise by Meljean Brook
This is the first story I've ever read by Meljean Brook, and I was so excited to read something by her after everything I've heard...but, it was SO SLOW. It drug along for the first 2/3 of the story, and then things picked up ok.

I really liked the first story, like 4 or 5 stars still thinking about it a week later like it. The story's about a vet who could talk to animals and a serial rapist and a cop. The second was another story about the Guardians and they're interesting, but I can never quite get into them --I keep running into them in anthologies like this. The third was ok, but it let me know that I won't be at the library anytime soon trying to track down every book she's written. Good to know. And the last I'm s ...more

Three of the stories were quite good. I particularly liked Shayne's and Liu's, but the "Warriors of Poseidon" one was a fun read as well.

It's the other story that keeps me from giving this 5 stars- I hated it. The world made no sense to me- granted, I haven't read anything previous in it, but it was still incoherent- while relationships between vampires, nosferatu, demons, and guardians were vital to the plot, the explanations f how it all fitted together within the plot seemed to keep contradic

I picked up this book solely because it contains "Hunter Kiss," the novella that precedes Iron Hunt . Liu certainly didn't disappoint me.

The other three novellas didn't suck as much as most romance-centered works do. Maggie Shayne's "Animal Magnetism" was working for me, but then a mention of a dog seeing a color brought my suspension of disbelief crashing down around me. "Paradise" by Meljean Brook was, eh, okay, I guess. I just couldn't really get excited, and the "plot" seemed a lame excuse

"Wild Hearts in Atlantis" by Alyssa Day. 3.5 stars. Great little short if you are reading the Poseidon Series. Quick pace and easy to read.

"Paradise" by Meljean Brook. 3.5 stars. 3rd "story" in her Guardian series. Good piece to read after Demon Angel b/c it's a fairly straight forward and light tale. Main female, Selah, was from Demon Angel. Nice transition to next full-length novel. Enjoyed the outcome...

This is anthology that has four paranormal stories, I have only read one so far, but I will get to the rest. I bought the book for the prequel story by Marjorie M. Liu, so that is where I started.
