At a time when dressage instructors were unavailable and local schooling shows were new, I had a handle of booklets and one major dressage book to prepare me for the sport. Dressage From A to X was the dressage instructor. Barbara Burkhardt takes a comprehensive approach to dressage. This isn't just about the rules of dressage and what the movements are, this is about everything having to do with the person preparing for the sport. There are variations of dressage to choose from--dressage, eventing, Pony Club, for example--, understanding the scoring system, how to pick a horse, how to condition the horse, how to condition yourself, nutrition for horse and rider, tack, rider attire, how to get an idea on what level you can train up to, designing a warm up program, how to prep for shows, and how to adapt your training from your test results. I make this list so people can see just how in depth this book is and how it makes an excellent companion for new dressage riders--the serious, the casual, and those not sure where in between they will fall. Bottom line, everything you need as a basis for your future knowledge and experience is written in this book.

If you are a dressage rider, this book is a must have. It was given to me as a Christmas present and at first I frowned upon this book. Now it is priceless.
