Ladybug Girl

Ladybug Girl at the Beach

Rate this book
It is preschooler Lulu’s first time at the beach and she needs to conquer her fear of the ocean in this hardcover picture book from the New York Times bestselling Ladybug Girl series.

Lulu has never been to the beach but she knows she is going to love it…until she sees just how big and loud the ocean is. She and her dog Bingo decide that they will make sandcastles, fly kites, and get ice cream instead of swimming. But then the ocean waves snatch Lulu’s favorite pail. This is a job for Ladybug Girl! When Lulu is Ladybug Girl, she is brave and nothing can stop her from rescuing her pail – and suddenly she is in the ocean and it is fun!

This story is the perfect preparation for a first beach vacation, or to explore a new experience with a preschooler. Mama and Papa are never far away while Ladybug Girl builds up her courage and confronts something scary for the first time.

For fans of Fancy Nancy and Angelina Ballerina, the Ladybug Girl series honors courage, creativity, and a love of nature!

Cute illustrations!
It's Ladybug Girl's first time at the beach. The ocean looks so intriguing and amazing, but it scares her... but Ladybug Girl has to face her fears!

IN this book Ladybug Girl went to the beach for her very first time. She said that she liked the beach even though she has never went to the beach before. She ran to the waves with her dog Bingo. And she didn't know that the waves would be so big and noisy. So she took a few steps back. And then she made a big sand castle. And she used sticks for the king and queen. She though the people would be happy there. And when she was finished she asked her mom to fly the kite. It was windy and so she had to hold on tight. After the wind was gone, she was hot. She thought the water would be cooler but she was afraid of the big waves. And then she went to ask her parents to get ice cream. She told them all of her favorite eleven flavors. Her mom told her it was a day for double scoops. Then she took a walk down the beach. She found a stick and she wanted to draw pictures. She drew pictures of her dog Bingo. He was staying very still. I liked this book because it had Ladybug Girl and I like ladybugs. -by Felicity

My three-year-old daughter absolutely LOVES Ladybug Girl! She loves them all, but this one is her favorite. This "review" is from her. I just typed what she told me. :)
Ladybug Girl is like a superhero, and I want to be her when I grow up. She gets to go on a lot of adventures. She gets to go to the beach like I did when we went to the ocean, but I didn't take my dog with me. Ladybug Girl got ice cream. She likes lots of kinds, but I like vanilla. I love Ladybug Girl.

I read this book to Julianna 2 days ago. She said she gives this book 5 stars because she loves the beach and she likes the story of Ladybug girl and her dog. Today she is reading the book to me with my help.

I know these are best sellers, but frankly I don't know what the fuss is about any more than I do that over "Fancy Nancy". Just not earth shattering classic-forever kind of series.
This is cute enough as a little girl at the beach for the first time overcomes her fear of the ocean. But her insistence on wearing the full ladybug getup to the beach (sorry)bugs me. Then again, I'm a mean mama, just ask my traumatized daughters :D

I've read a few of the Ladybug Girl books and this one is a favorite. Lulu and Bingo have fun at the beach doing everything except jumping into the ocean. The waves are a bit too large and loud for Lulu.

Once her pail almost washes away, Ladybug Girl appears and enjoys splashing around in the waves. The last few pages illustrating the day winding down are beautiful.

Very cute picture book about overcoming fear of the ocean (which I can identify with as a young girl on summer vacation - still remember first time @ ocean and how the waves pushed me mouth first into the sand on the beach).

"I love the Lulu and when she becomes brave and the Ladybug girl. I love the big green wave, the rainbow kite, the ice cream flavors, the sand, her purple bucket, when she swims and splashes, and I love the Mama driving the car like my Mama." - V, 3 years old

Yep, another Ladybug Girl book we've been reading into the ground!

In this one Lulu and her family go to the beach, and Lulu finds the ocean is a little scarier than she thought it would be! Of course, once she turns into Ladybug Girl to rescue her favorite pail from being swept out to sea, all is well. My personal favorite part is "This is a good time to remind her parents about ice cream." I don't know why, but it makes me smile every time. Probably because I really love ice cream.

Anyway, it's another good one!

This was a really good book! I loved that ladybug girl aka Lulu had a fear of going into the water on the beach in this book because she was afraid the waves would either knock her down or send her away! It’s a realistic fear I could believe kids and even adults would have about the beach and it’s a good conflict to introduce to kids. The way she got over it is pretty smart too! The illustrations In this book are really cute as well there are a lot of gorgeous beach landscapes and ocean artwork here! It’s a must have for anyone who’s a fan of the beach!

It'd been awhile since I had read an installment in the Ladybug Girl series. I once again liked the illustrations and enjoyed seeing Lulu's creativity shine when she was building the sandcastles. I think David Soman does a good job of portraying the feelings a child might feel when encountering a new scenario. Apprehensive, cautious, and excitement. I think Ladybug Girl is a very positive role model for young children.

I really like how the Ladybug Girl stories are all tagged as "a story about ____," making it more than a girl playing in her tutu. Here, she is visiting the beach for the first time.

As always, Ladybug Girl and her trust sidekick Bingo are illustrated with bright clear pictures, clear text, and an easy-to-follow story. This one is a good one to pull out for a summer, beach, or bravery-themed storytime, or one to talk about trying new things.

Received 3 books in this series from my cousin (passed down from her daughter to mine). My 4 year old absolutely loves them, and I’ve really enjoyed reading about Lulu and Bingo’s adventures with her! This one is her favorite and we have already read it twice every day since she got it. Lulu and Bingo’s day at the beach is perfect and the illustrations are dreamy. This isn’t part of the Miraculous TV series. Definitely recommend!

I like this book because ladybugs are a good kind of animal, and I like this book because ladybugs are a kind of superhero. This book reminds me of Betsy [from Curious George Goes to the Beach], because Betsy doesn't wanna go in the water because she's afraid of the waves and Ladybug Girl is also afraid of the waves.

This was a nightly request when we had it home from the library this week and I love the authenticity of how Ladybug Girl overcomes her fear of the ocean - just what my preschooler would do in the same situation. However, I was a little disappointed by how there were fewer instances of Lulu playing pretend than in previous books.

“Ladybug Girl at the Beach” by David Soman and Jacky Davis is a very cute story that I believe students would love! This book would great to read right before spring break or Summer to get students excited that are going on beach vacation.

This book was a gift from my mother. The story describes how Lulu overcomes her fears of the ocean. The story is simple, with good illustrations. We read this every summer, and whenever we miss the beach.

I liked how you could feel her quite nervousness towards the sea through the illustrations. I could see my own four year old noticing it as well. Very relatable for her. A great story about bravery and the beach.

Beach Story Time. Ladybug Girl and her family travel to the beach for the first time. Can she overcome her fear of the water?

A little long for Story Time, but enjoyed by 4s and 5s.

A cute book for kids about a girl overcoming her fears. Very sweet book, and very nice lesson for kids.

It can be scary to go someplace new, but it can also be a fun adventure too! 😉
