When Emily Rogers heard Aaron Silverstone and his lover through the too-thin walls of the Campbell River motel, she knew this man would be dangerous company. What she didn't know was that she would meet him again - and that within twenty-four hours he would have rescued her ... and endangered the heart she'd vowed never to risk again. Somehow, getting rid of Aaron Silverstone seemed impossible, especially when Emily fell in love with Aaron's changeling daughter, Tommy. Then, Emily realized she didn't want him to go...but was it too late?
Emily is rescued from a drunk man trying to attack her on the side of the road by a creep who couldn’t take no for an answer earlier that day during a boat tour. She’s a widow of seven years, and I’m going to assume that (and the fact this was written in the 90s) is the reason she makes a million excuses for his behavior and finds herself actually attracted to him.
None of that is why I DNFed this though. For some reason she feels the need to remind the reader—constantly!—how ugly the hero’s daughter is. Lay off the kid, Emily.
Besides that, and I know this is petty, but the writing style is the kind of amateur that peppers their prose with a ton of adverbs – I said snarkily.
