Unbroken Ties
Trouble is brewing and tensions are high in Carwick, where Temperance is struggling to belong. The wizards distrust her, the werewolves despise her, and someone wants her dead. With Halvard’s duties drawing him further from her, and the surprise return of her brother, Crispin, chaos grips Carwick, and Temperance soon finds her loyalty to her family tested like never before.

One of my favourite things about Legend Unleashed (to which this book is a sequel) is the way M. Latimer-Ridley resolved the love triangle between heroine Temperance Levinthal, wizard Alastair Byron, and werewolf Halvard Wolfram. I thought it was brilliant, inspired, and unique. My fear for the sequel was that they wouldn't explore the consequences. But there was no fear of that. Instead of having everything wrapped up in a bow, everything gets nice and messy for both Temperance and her love interests. Which is the way it should be.
Relations between the werewolves and the wizards deepen too, which was surprising as I expected Byron and Wolfram to be able to smooth things out. But M. Latimer-Ridley again made things messy, and the book is so much better for it.
If I have to complain about something, it's the pacing. As with the first book, I felt this was a little rushed at times. I don't mind a frenetic pace, but sometimes I felt the narrative was skipping over things too quickly. There were some opportunities for exploration and deepening of the plot that were missed.
But better to want more than less, I say. The fact is, I'm looking forward to book three, which is always the highest praise I can think of.

Fantastic
I have found a gem in this series! I wasn't expecting too much when I first picked up Legend Unleashed, but I am so happy I did. both books are fast paced and gripping. I am sad to see the conclusion to Temperance and Halvard's story but I can't wait for the next book in the series.
