Loved it!

Another winner by Sandra Brown.

A standard SB hero, a little bit less standard heroine with a stick up her ass and a standard storyline, though not as suspenseful as in her newer books. The bad guy is revealed from early on but the plot is still enjoyable.

What was nonstandard was the romance aspect.

Read the blurb for this one and said to myself.... "Who is going to read that silly book?" Put it out of my head. Have been on a bit of a SB marathon and sort of wanted to keep reading her books. Saw some friends had given this one 5 stars so decided to take the plunge. I loved it.

After five long years in federal prison, Griff Burkett is a free man. But the disgraced Cowboys quarterback can never return to life as he knew it before he was caught cheating. In a place where football is practical

Play Dirty is another Sandra Brown winner for me. Honestly, I didn’t expect to enjoy it as much as I did. I read the blurb, pieced a little bit together, and I wondered if this story was going to work for me. Well, she did it again. SB writes in such a way that she doesn’t waste any time sucking you in and then as your turning the pages of each chapter she gives you these teasers that she so strategically strings you along with throughout the book. I must say she really has perfected that talent ...more

It’s that time of the year again ➜ the SUPER BOWL!!! Play Dirty was my pick for a football book to get ready for the game on Sunday.

Griff is the former Dallas Cowboy quarterback who has just been released from prison. He did 5 years for his dirty playing on the football field. He was being paid to throw games. We meet Griff on his release day from prison. Unfortunately, the city of Dallas has not forgotten how Griff disgraced himself and America's Team.

Right away the plot takes off because Gri

4 1/2 Stars - Stunning thrilling crime drama (with a nice romantic twist)

I was really impressed by my first Sandra Brown novel (Envy - 4.7 stars) just some week ago. When I saw this 13:40 hrs audiobook for Audible sale ($6.95) I couldn't resist. Even this time narrated by the amazing fantastic Victor Slezak. Just he alone is worth all those hours and $$$.

Wow! I liked a "SB" incredible much...again
Quite scary, fast paced, heartbreaking exciting. All the time with a
Excellent pace, wonderful male character, believable villains, perfect dialogue and banter. Typical Sandra Brown, and one of her best, IMO.

And talk about a lolwut premise.

Griff is unlike any other heroes in SB novels I have read.
Is he a loser? Yes.
Is he an alpha? No.
Did he make bad decisions that changed his life for the worse? Yes.

Are MCs relatable ? No.
The romance? Unusual. No hearts and flowers.
Pace? Page-turner.

Surprisingly I really enjoyed reading this rather weird, a bit unrealistic story that hooked me from page one. The author placed Griff in such an ill-fated situation that I couldn’t help but wholeheartedly root

I couldn't put this book down. I really liked it mostly I think because Griff was such a flawed person. I liked that he went bad after having been given such a new start on life with his high school coach. So many novels have them all turned around and on the straight and narrow never to stray again. I get tired of shiny perfect heros all the time. The only thing that bothered me is that he didn't seriously look for a job after getting out of prison. He basically talked to one guy about a job. Sandra Brown's book are often a guarantee!

After several not so good books, finally a ood one!

I really enjoyed the twists and turns in the story! I loved how everything matched andhow the love story developed!

There's a plain villain (who I wanted to castrate!), the undecover villain (who I wanted to make tetraplegic!), the wronged hero (who I wanted to punch!) and the heroine (coereced by her love to act in a very improper way). WOW! What a mix!

Nobody is innocent here. Most of the characters are

Oh my, this was great! It's a 500 pages book and I read it in less than 3 days because I couldn't put it down. The action was non-stop, the hero gorgeous with a traumatic past to wake up the maternal instinct in me and there were no unecessary descriptions or deviations to drag you away from the plot. I loved that the plot started right away with the couple suggesting to the hero to father their baby, and I did not have to wait for introductions to the protagonists and their history before start ...more

After staying away from Sandra Brown the last few years, I was pleasantly surprised by Ricochet last year. So when my bookstore handed me Play Dirty, I decided to buy it, hoping that SB had returned to her previous sensual romances.

Well, I was wrong about the sensual romance. There is hardly any between the H&H so don't go buying this book expecting a good ol' Sandra Brown of old - the one who gave us the unforgettable Slow Heat in Heaven, Where There's Smoke, etc.

Having said that, Play Dirt

Subject did not appeal to me. It was not entertaining. It was unpleasant and depressing. I wanted it to be over.

S. Brown is a talented writer. I don’t know what she was thinking when she chose this subject. Maybe she wanted to try something different. The only value I see is for athletes to learn from someone else’s mistakes. The hero Griff is a pro quarterback. He makes stupid choices. He does stupid things. He goes to jail. Everyone (the public) hates Griff for what he did. An evil cop is stal

Narrated by Victor Slezak

The operative word here is narration. In print, I doubt I would have even read the last half of Play Dirty. Featuring a former NFL star quarterback who served time in prison for throwing a game, a wealthy, slightly mad CEO confined to a wheelchair who wants said former NFL star to impregnate his wife the old fashioned way, a dirty cop determined to hurt that former NFL star in whatever way he can, and the CEO’s mostly likeable

Griff Burkett did the most unspeakable thing....he intentionally threw a football game that eventually placed him in prison. Now he's out, broke and the most hated man in Texas. So why would Foster Speakman want to meet with him? To offer an indecent proposal.

Foster wants to hire Burkett do impregnate his wife, Laura. Since he has no money and desperate, Burkett accepts and this is where the trouble begins.

There's a Dallas detective, Stanley Rodart, that's out to get Burkett for the murder of

I love Sandra Brown and her Mirror Image book has by far been my favorite, that is until Play Dirty was released earlier this month. Play Dirty is the story of an ex-con football player who went to prison for fixing a game and served 5 years. He was also under suspicion for a murder he may/may not have committed (don't want to spoil it for anyone). Upon his release from prison, he is contacted by the CEO of a successful airline and asked to do something that goes against all that is morally comp ...more

I really felt for Griff in this story. How messed up can life get for a guy down on his luck. I was glad to know I wouldn't be depressed at the end. It is definitely a tangled web of intrigue.

PLAY DIRTY hooked me from the first page and didnt let me go until well into the wee hours. Ended up having to work from home the next day, and even then not much work got done. Not much sleep for that matter either. I was so hooked I just had to continue after only a few hours of shut eye. That said, while I really enjoyed the first 3 quarters of the book, the last quarter left quite a bit to be desired.

Yes, Sandra Brown is not always among my top authors (her novels are more miss than hit for

Enjoy the book and not disappointing with the heroines. Laura Speakman was a kind of heroine I like. Not clingy, strong characters with some flaws.

This book came as a bonus gift in a Goodreads giveaway that I won, so much thanks to Sandra Brown and Goodreads for that.

I most definitely enjoyed the book. I picked it up this morning and didn't stop until I was done. I thought the main character was drawn especially well. Griff is a former pro-NFLer who cheated, by intentionally throwing a SuperBowl game. His team lost, he got found out, he went to jail, and earned the undying hatred of NFL fans everywhere, but especially in his home state of

Quite a disappointing read by Sandra Brown. I thought there was just too much emphasis on bad luck, negativity and lunacy in this story. A former football star, Griff Burkett, comes out of prison after a five-year stint for having thrown a game to pay off his gambling debts. So he's a free man again and out of the blue he’s invited by this multimillionaire couple, Laura and Foster Speakman, to their mansion and they have a proposal for him, for which he will be paid a lot of money: they want him ...more

Griff Burkett had reached the pinnacle of his football career. As the star quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys everything was easy and available; wealth, wine, women and wagering and it was the gambling addition that began his long descent into the underworld and turned him into a pariah of the sports world. After serving five years in the Texas State Penitentiary he emerged as a reformed man in a new world but unfortunately a world that wouldn’t give him the chance to prove it. When Griff meets ...more

Sandra Brown's books are pretty light reading in my opinion, but she comes up with some unusual situations and plots. Play Dirty deals with an ex-con, former football player who is offered a fabulous amount of money to impregnate (the natural way so no one but the three of them know) the wife of a wheel-chair bound man. Meanwhile, a crooked detective is harassing Griff whom he thinks killed someone in the cheating scandal that sent Griff to jail. There and twists and unexpected events that make ...more

I haven't read Brown's work before and if this is a good indicator - I will surely try another (and another)! I found this terribly difficult to put down. It was a well developed story. NO it wasn't entirely believable but then I don't think all stories have to be real to be GOOD. & I particularly LIKED that she didn't solve every issue in the end. & it wasn't the perfect ending - but it may have been JUST RIGHT for this book! I like this a lot...
Two thumbs up!
Bener2 bagus banget.. Walopun setebal ini tapi ga berasa boring..
Untungnya semua berakhir dgn bahagia bagi Griff krn bener2 nasibnya jelek bgt dr sejak lahir.. Sedih bgt bayangin kehidupan ky dia..
Berkali2 hmpr tercekat baca ceritanya..
Karakter Laura juga kuat banget..
Pokonya smuanya pas deh porsinya..
Top banget.. :D

My head is still spinning from this book. The frustration and anger I felt reading this novel was so overwhelming. So many twists and turns. So much I just didn't see coming. This is by far the best book by SB that I have read so far!

This book took me a long time to get into & to be honest I wasn't sure I was going to finish it.. but then I got sucked in. Overall it was a decent book, there was suspense & I enjoyed the ending. I just had a really hard time understanding why Laura would do the things she did, but at the same time I did understand I just disagreed with it. Anyway I would recommend this book but it would be sparingly & I would definitely recommend other books by this author first.
This is the first book I've read by this author. The story primarily focuses on Griff and begins on his day of release from prison due to his crime of racketeering during his days as an NFL quarterback. He's summoned to the home of Foster Speakman: gazionaire, airline owner, and paraplegic. Because of an accident confining him to a wheelchair a few years prior, Foster can't father any children with his wife and offers Griff the job plus half a million dollars for conceiving the natural way. I really enjoyed this compelling story. Couldn't stop listening to it, actually (I "read" it on audio). My one issue--and this has cropped up in the past several Sandra Brown books, much to my chagrin--is that the author seems to liberally use phrases like "the Mexican," and "the Salvadoran," and other ethnic generalities whenever referring to Latinos from any central or south American country. It bothers me a bit, sorry. Just because a character is from Mexico or El Salvador--wherever--doesn't ...more

PB/Suspense Fiction: This book is total fumble and totally insults any person is was adopted or has adopted. So a billionaire asks a ex-con/ex-pro football player to impregnate his wife "the old fashion way". There are so many problems with this book that it will probably make my worst list of 2011.
