Her Desert Dream

Rate this book
Lydia Young has landed her dream assignment! Used to stacking shelves, she's now jetting off to a desert kingdom for a holiday as a media darling's look-alike.
All Lydia has to do is enjoy a week of pampered bliss in a luxury oasis—and not blow her cover by falling for her host, dangerously out-of-her-league Sheikh Kalil al-Zaki.

Hmm, this might just be trickier than she first thought!

Lydia wanted the spotlight…

…Annie wanted anonymity.

Hi, I'm Liz Fielding, and I'm a best selling contemporary romance author with more than 15 million books in print and Katie Fforde wrote, when honouring me with the Romantic Novelists' Association's Outstanding Achievement Award in 2019 said - "Liz Fielding's books, with their warmth, humour and emotion, have charmed millions of readers. She is a true star of the romantic fiction genre..."

And now I've turned to a life of crime with my first cozy mystery. Murder Among the Roses, published on 18 April 2023 - of which Katie Fforde also said, "I was gripped from beginning to end..."

Reading is a big part of my life. I love witty, contemporary romances, not too much sex,, Women's fiction by the likes of Fiona Harper, Julie Cohen, Susan Elizabeth Phillips, Jennifer Crusie and Barbara O'Neal. And I love crime fiction that isn't too gory, or focussed on clue hunting, but is big on character.

My best loved series at the moment are the Ruth Galloway series by Elly Griffiths, The Rivers of London series by Ben Aaronovitch and the Libby Sarjeant Mysteries by Lesley Cookman. I've just read the first in the Georgina Drake crime series from Kate Hardy and looking forward to the next.

Wow, I really enjoyed this one! The ending was so sweet it had me almost in tears. This is the story of Lydia, the girl who was a double for Lady Rose from Christmas Angel for the Billionaire (which was also good and I recommend reading first) and Kalil, a man who is looking for acceptance from his home country 50 years after his grandfather was banished. Lydia takes a vacation as Lady Rose to a desert kingdom to help Rose escape her life for a week. Kalil is assigned as her bodyguard, which he is hoping to use as leverage to gain an audience with his uncle to ask that his dying grandfather be allowed to come to his home country to die.

So Kal and Lydia both have their reasons for being where they are but both are keeping secrets. They have an instant powerful attraction to each other but they can't act on it for various reasons. The mistaken identity issue was dealt with very well, I was afraid it would be a huge deal but Kal was in love with the real Lydia and didn't care.

I really enjoyed this story, the love between Kal and Lydia seemed real. Kal was a real sweetheart who loves his large extended family and all the women in it. He treated Lydia very well and was very romantic. The ending was sweet and sigh-worthy. One thing I would warn about, the one love scene had no detail at all it was just references - but the rest of the story was so good I didn't mind.

This was a wonderful story that I would recommend to people who enjoy sweet Harlequins with a smart nice heroine and a wonderful hero who treats the heroine like a princess.

This was such a lovely read. Beautifully developed romance with a fabulous hero and delightful heroine. I loved it. Poetic, evocative and emotionally satisfying. Whilst I normally like more heat, the author proves it is possible to generate steam without necessarily going into too much detail. A real skill!

Second of a dualogy. Sweet romance, with a sweet heroine and a swoon worthy gentlemanly hero. A great declaration of love at the end.
